Re: Duncan Livingston, slate quarrier at Balvicar

Margaret, Thanks for this - it is good to known that Barbara is Duncan's sister. I have sent a PM with email - a copy of the account would be great. I downloaded Barabara's death certificate yesterday along with the OPR of Duncan and Sarah's marriage. The OPR tell us that Duncan was working as a qua...

Re: Duncan Livingston, slate quarrier at Balvicar

I have since found that Donald and Sarah were married in 1891. If Duncan was born to them after this date that would make him rather young to be the mother of Mary born in 1805. There is always the possibility tht Duncan was born before his parents were married in the church. Alternatively could Dun...

Re: Duncan Livingston, slate quarrier at Balvicar

John,

Thank-you for this. I am planning a short visit in July so will put the co-ordinates into our sat nav so we can try and drive by the location.

Re: Duncan Livingston, slate quarrier at Balvicar

I think an article would be of interest. I was never aware that the islands were called the Slate Islands until I started my family tree research very recently - I've learnt a great deal since then thanks to this forum. I also bought a copy of The Islands that Roofed the World on Donald's recommenda...

Re: Duncan Livingston, slate quarrier at Balvicar

Margaret, Yes I was getting slightly mixed up - am I right in thinking that Donald and Jean got married in Glasgow and one child in that area before moving back to Easdale ? This is partly due to the 1861 census record which I have access to as it lists all the children as been born in Renfrew along...

Re: Duncan Livingston, slate quarrier at Balvicar

Thank you for the welcome & also the details of the family through the census records - very helpful, especially as I was planning on tracking the family through census records to get more of sense of who they were and what they did. This gives me a huge start, I have now located Jean Livingston...

Re: Duncan Livingston, slate quarrier at Balvicar

Hello, I came across this thread when researching the family of my great-garndmother Jane Livingston who was from the Isle Seil and have since joined the forum. Jane is a descendant of the line discussed in this thread and I thought I should introduce myself. Jane was born in Mar 1876 and is the gra...
