North Carolina highland games
I just attended the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games. I tent camped for two nights. I met lots and lots of fun and interesting folks of Scottish heritage. Everyone was so friendly. Even got a little haggis ! I got to wear my new Ancient Livingston kilt for the first time and feel like I fit right...

Lost little brother Duncan David Livingston
my ancestral search has come to a dead end with a poignant story passed down in my family. my great great great grandfather was Duncan David Livingston, who came to Scotland County, North Carolina, USA in the late 1700s. my late cousin wrote the following, a story that was passed down orally: Duncan...

Re: North Carolina Livingstons
Donald, I have disappointing news about the Charles Livingston connection. I thought exactly what you did about the Charles who married into the White family, but looks like that is a different Charles, not Hugh's brother. I mentioned in previous posts about a Livingston group around Wagram, NC, in ...

Re: North Carolina Livingstons
Donald, Yes, I think Hugh was most likely Peter Parker's biological father. Hugh was born in 1805, and his wife was 12 years younger than he. Peter was born in thr late 1820s or early 1830s according to Jeane's email today. That would have made Hugh a single man in his twenties at the time of Peter'...

Re: North Carolina Livingstons
Donald, i just got in email contact with Jeane Parker today for the first time, as she contacted me through the DNA project web page. She tells me Peter Parker lived in the household of George Parker, but was not an heir in George's 1852 will, indicating no relation. then, Peter Parker married one o...

Re: North Carolina Livingstons
Donald, as i mentioned earlier, my late father told me that Hugh was exhumed and moved our current family cemetery, which is next door to his son, Peter's former residence. i would venture that the reason for the incorrect tombstone year of death is that the tombstone was done some years after his d...

Re: North Carolina Livingstons
that is very interesting about the Parker connection. i hope my DNA results will shed some light. i think there were more incidences of informal adoptions in those days, too, which may be another possibility. even in my wife's family, her grandparents took the children of a sibling and raised them a...

Re: North Carolina Livingstons
Donald, here is a copy of your post dated July 21, 2009 on page one of this "NC Livingstons" thread: 'Hi Jewel, Through the help of Jeanne Parker whose family is involved in the DNA project I think we have figured out David Duncan Livingston's ancestry. There is no indication of what Count...

Re: North Carolina Livingstons
Thanks Donald, i will look into Montcrieff's book. from your family history and the book i just read by James Hunter, it sounds like there was a shortage of first names back in those days! in Hunter's book there were constantly people with the same first and last name. they had to distinguish them b...
