Re: Donald Livingstone

Donald, Thanks for your email. I can trace an ancestor back to the 1760s, but nothing earlier, despite parishes keeping records of baptisms and births. Knowing that David Livingstone's family has links to Ulva, I am curious to know if other Livingstone families might have lived in Ulva. Thus, my int...

Re: Donald Livingstone

Does anyone know if it's possible to locate families in Ulva specifically from the early 1700s to about 1765? It's my understanding that records on Ulva are included in Kilinian and Kilmore records. Databases I've been able to search do not show Ulva as a location where someone was baptized, only th...

Re: Donald Livingstone

Donald, Thank you for your additional research on Neil/Donald Livingstone. Given the information from the censuses, it would appear the families were crofters and moved regularly to work on different properties. It might be that tacksmen raised rents, forcing the family to move or other properties b...

Re: Donald Livingstone

Donald, Since I received information on Donald's parent's names (John and Mary), I've researched their location based on available records. The census for 1841, 1851, and 1861 listed house numbers where families lived. It appears only Livingstones lived in the area of Drimnatyne. I'm hope to find a ...

Re: Donald Livingstone

Donald, Thank you again for all your efforts to help unravel my family's genealogy. And best wishes for 2018. A couple follow-up questions. Is information available on the Drimnatyne-Croggan Village area in the 1800's? Population size? Were residents mostly tenement farmers? etc. Donald Livingstone ...

Re: Donald Livingstone

Donald,

I finally gained access to the death certificate of Donald Livingstone, who died in Yorkton on May 5, 1921. As you suspected, his parents are Neil Livingstone and Mary McLean.

Best regards,

Bill

Re: Donald Livingstone

Donald,

It worked he fist time. Thanks.

Do you know if the cemetery has kept any records on burials? There would have been paperwork on the purchase of the plots, when people were buried, etc.

Best regards,

Bill

Re: Donald Livingstone

Donald,

Unfortunately, Canada restricts access to a census for 92 years! Hard to trace down someone who is living.

Thanks again for your continuing interest in finding details about Donald Livingstone and his family.

Best regards,

Bill

Re: Donald Livingstone

Donald, I thought you might be interested in a short overview of Donald Livingstone, contained in the book, "The Ox-Trails to Highways," by HS Swallow (published in 1955). The information was located by a heritage researcher in Yorkton. The book has a chapter called "The Merchants of ...
