Re: New addition to the Bachuil group
Hi Donald, When I began my quest for the origin of my last name, I originally thought of MacKinney as well. The similarity in pronounciation is huge, it's pronounced almost the same. The main difference is that the emphasis on Mikkenie is on the first syllable and with MacKinney on the second syllab...

Re: New addition to the Bachuil group
Having gone through the 3 pages of the below L1335 list tonight it immediately became apparent that Mr. Mikinnie's descendant is much likely to have been of a Scottish McKennie or Mckinnie family some of which apparently if tested would be L1335-L1065-Z16325-S744-S764 and quite possibly L1335-L1065...

Re: New addition to the Bachuil group
Hi Donald and George, I'm glad to see that there's a discussion going on the subject of Y-DNA. I saw my name mentioned a lot (in various spellings :-) ) in the posts above, so I had to react :-) . It is a very interesting read, thank you for that. I want to point out that I am not claiming to be of ...

Re: SNP testing
Hi, I received my BigY results from FTDNA. I'm now BY23073+ and BY23072-. I'm splitting up this block on the big tree http://www.ytree.net/DisplayTree.php?blockID=2278&star=false . It looks like my DNA is originated in Argyll. I hope that some of you are going to test for Z16328, BY23073 and som...

Connection Stewarts of Appin - Maclea
Hi, Yesterday I received my BigY results from FTDNA. I'm now in a group with Stewarts and MacPhersons http://www.ytree.net/DisplayTree.php?blockID=2278&star=false . My Most Distant Known Ancestor was known as Makelij. Could these Stewarts have been Stewart of Appin? Just a hypothesis, but a real...

Re: SNP testing
Hi Donald, Thank you for your reply! It's most interesting! I think that what you are describing is mostly based on matching STR-markers. I believe that the way to prove definite relationships between and in-between these groups would be SNP testing. For instance, when we take a look at my STR-match...

Re: SNP testing
Dear Mr. Baron Livingstone, Thank you for your reply. I think there is a way to prove a possible connection between these Contin MacLeay's and the Lismore MacLea's. SNP testing would certainly be the next step to take, I'm quite sure about that. For me personally it's not really that important to ma...

Re: SNP testing
Hi Donald,
Actually the above mentioned Livingstone, who tested positive for S756, is the same that you mentioned. He has FTDNA id 164403.
His A6099 SNP is approximately 400 years old.
Regards, Remko

Re: SNP testing
Hi Donald, Thank you for your reply. And my apologies for my late reaction. Unfortunately, this MacLeay is not my only GD4 match at 67 markers. Other GD4 surnames include MacDonald, Durie, Sweeney, Reddoch, Urquhart, Norton and Stewart. But MacLeay is similar to my ancestor's surname Makelij. What's...

Re: SNP testing
Hi all, I ordered the BigY test at familytreedna. I hope that my close MacLeay STR-match will test for some of my new private SNP's. Because till now my descendancy from (Ross and Cromarty) MacLeay's is just a hypothesis. Or maybe it will encourage some other matches to do some SNP testing as well. ...
