Re: Nova Scotia/PEI Livingstone Research
Hi All I've attached the crown grant map for Colin's farm. After spending a little time going over it, I think it provides some hints to the history of land titlement on PEI in the early years. It seems like the gentleman at the Registry office implied, deeds weren't a required document pre 1935. Th...

Re: Nova Scotia/PEI Livingstone Research
Hi Roberta Hmmmm.....I don't believe that has ever been a law. I do know that cottage owners on PEI pay a much higher property tax if they are not a full time resident. I think it is about double what everyone else pays, but anyone is free to purchase property on PEI. Now we do have some of the most...

Re: Nova Scotia/PEI Livingstone Research
Well I went to the land registry office today, and pretty much they drew a blank. I did get a copy of the crown grant, and guess what it is dated 1896 and it is Colin's son name, John, dated 1896. I asked why the crown land grant would be in John's name and not Colin's and they didn't know. I have a...

Re: Nova Scotia/PEI Livingstone Research
Hi Roberta Oh...now I see. I don't think the name fits into my ancestry. I have never seen either name in any of the research I have done. Nine Mile Creek Livingston's are a different branch of the livingston family. From what I can gather our family on PEI is not related to the ones in other areas ...

Hi Roberta
I have not found any information regarding Ewen Lauchlin Livingstone. What makes you think there might be a relationship? I'm going to look through this article.

Re: Nova Scotia/PEI Livingstone Research
Yes I found this all very interesting. Also found this about Rev. John Livingston and his sons who settled in Montreal. A very interesting read about half way through the document and this is related to the seven years war as well. http://www.archive.org/stream/oldhousetaylorli00tayl/oldhousetaylorl...

Re: Nova Scotia/PEI Livingstone Research
Hi All So the Seven Years War was where the French were defeated by the English. It was in this time period where the fall of Louisbourg and Quebec City happened. So I decided to see if I could find a John Livingston that would be worthy of giving him all this land in Cape Breton. So I started searc...

Re: Nova Scotia/PEI Livingstone Research
Hi Donald Interestingly, 1865 is the year that Cape Breton was Annexed and became part of Nova Scotia. "By proclamation of October 17, 1763 after termination of the Seven Years' War, Cape Breton Island was formally annexed to Nova Scotia. For a time thereafter Cape Breton Island was part of Hal...

Re: Nova Scotia/PEI Livingstone Research
Hi Donald
When you check the PDF file I added, take notice of the acreage listed for these. They are very large land grants. What do you make of them? Looks like some of the Livingstons may have been landlords to have this much property.

Re: Nova Scotia/PEI Livingstone Research
Hi Donald I will be able to go to the Land Records office after the 23rd when the gentleman gets back I need to talk to. I know the previous owners of the property and the present owner too. I have added the PDF file and from what I can gather this is a list of all Crown Land Grants in their consoli...
