Thanks heaps for the info. I'll look into the tests.

Re: Livingstones of Reudle, Isle of Mull
Hi Donald I just did a reply and it didn't post so hope this doesn't post twice. I've been on ftdna and put in our oldest known ancestor as John because I cannot verify the previous two. I put his birth date as abt 1755 because that's what Mull Genealogy had. I've checked the SNP tests and I cannot ...

Re: Livingstones of Reudle, Isle of Mull
Hi Donald Thanks again for the work you do on this. So the facts are: 1. Our family don't match to the three main Livingstone groups. 2. My brother's dna results are inconclusive but with a possible match to a Macleay from Ross-shire. I think all I can do now is: - start looking at broader relations...

Re: Livingstones of Reudle, Isle of Mull
Hi Donald I looked on the ancestral origins on family tree DNA. At 25 markers, there are two exact matches - one from Scotland and one from Ireland. At 67 markers, at a genetic distance of 5, there is one from Scotland. If this is not what I'm supposed to be looking at, please let me know. I have fo...

Re: Livingstones of Reudle, Isle of Mull
Hi Donald You made a post on 20th January 2018 in the DNA forum in response to a man from the Netherlands. In that post you referred to my brother's DNA result. I thought I'd remind you of this so that you are not wasting time unnecessarily. My brother is in the Scots r1b1 group but with some irregu...

Re: Livingstones of Reudle, Isle of Mull
Hi Donald I really appreciate you looking at this. You are correct that my great uncle relied on Carmichael's account, and I am aware that there were errors. However, he also got information from the Duke of Argyll. However, I don't know how he got this information - probably through correspondence ...

Re: Livingstones of Reudle, Isle of Mull
My brother did the DNA test some years back (21629). We aren't related to Dr David except, as I stated, possibly by marriage. Am I incorrect in saying that this relationship wouldn't show up in the dna? If the relationship would show in the DNA, then the story is incorrect.

Livingstones of Reudle, Isle of Mull

Re: Randomly Acquired Information
Hi John Yes, when they were recording ages on the census, they had to use multiples of five so that needs to be considered when looking at ages. Also, spellings and variations of names were at the discretion of the census taker. On Mull, in particular, there was another issue related to age - it was...
