Broken Branch Livingstone - Fell from the Tree
<t>This is a very big question, Gerald! Highland Livingstones left Scotland after the "clearances" by the British after numerous long-standing border wars, by the early 1800's. Many other Scottish highland clans left for greener pastures at this time: some went to work in the new woolen mills in and...

Robert Livingston, Placerville, California
<t>So sorry to hear this news. Like others, Rob helped me a great deal with my initial clan queries. That was about 5 years ago, and I'm sorry I couldn't fit a visit in last time I was over in the States, Rob...although you did put me onto Niall and Alastair, who I did visit..a trip I'll always trea...

John Livingston and Jane Hunter
Are there any legible records of births, deaths, marriages in this bible? I am descended from a John Livingstone, but he died in 1858. He fathered my ancestor Gavin (b.1835, No.4 boy), and I have to find the other (all male) siblings, one of whom may have also been a John.

Livingston connection part 2
<t>Bob; somewhere in your threads you refer to a Boston connection. In chasing down my own ancestors, who at first seemed to all come from Glasgow region/Blantyre, and earlier from Argyll, we found one who appeared in Nova Scotia and is still buried there, though his son died back in Scotland! There...

Handy hint for finding ancestors' first names
I have heard of such a tradition, yes, although the Young Bachuil would know for sure.

Livingstones/McLeas
<t>One of the family tales that reached us as kids was that we had an ancestor "hung for stealing sheep from the English". Does anyone on the forum know of any such accounts for McLeas or Livingstones in Argyll? Would they be in court records? My impression is that it was the redcoats who were respo...

DNA testing of skeletal remains?
A thought. Wiltshire's "Cheddar man" was DNA tested and lo and behold a direct descendant turned up 12000 years and a few miles away in a little village! Are there any skeletal remains from archaeological excavations in the Loch Linne region? If so, could they be tested?

<t>Donald; keep at it. I don't know why anyone would ridicule what you're doing, but it certainly isn't true Livingstone behaviour the way I understand it. I've personally loved your postings and the huge amount of research that's gone into them... especially about Miles Livingstone et al. Fascinati...

Livingstones and McPhails on Luing, Argyll, 1834
Thanks Susan. Any information is useful! Out of interest, my first cousin was the daughter of a Livingstone daughter, and her name was Jeanie (she died young unfortunately). My brother is named Colin. These may be family names that popped up again in recent times.
