Scots R1b Motif

Hi Niall, From your statements, "So my argument is that the Coarbs are almost certainly of the tribe of the saint and quite probably also of the tribe of the land through patrilineal succession.

Baffled - what's that?

Post by Bachuil »

Rob, I am not surprised - I am extremely baffled. You see I am simply quoting various authorities - and it is difficult to reconcile these with the conventional view. Also this could be explained by poor old discredited O'Hart.

Scots R1b Motif

I'm going to be rascally here and wonder aloud whether the SNP money would have been better spent on more STR tests! (We are 99.9999% sure what the SNP tests will say.) Anyway, once you are an EA customer I believe the price of the 18 new markers decreases. Have a look, will you? And then we still should think about whether who, if anyone, should do the DNA Fingerprint markers, which BTW increase at a rate of a few a month. Right now they are the geeks choice, but they are quickly becoming very important for reasons of pure technical superiority. Given that you'll be considering the price for those EA 18 markers (evil giggle) I perhaps should turn a glance towards Niall, sitting in the corner. Niall, DNA Fingerprint is actually a cheap option - much cheaper than the SNP tests Rob will get done. They allow pay-per-marker so we could ignore a whole bunch of markers. Tell me if you are willing to let me convince you and I'll go through some price for you. Regards Andrew

Fiachu Fermara

Post by Bachuil »

Firstly- in support of Hart there are these references: Several sources such as the Genelach H Dhuinn Slebhe from O'Clery's Book of Genealogies state that Donn Sleibe Mac Eochada descended from Fiachu Fermara (Fiach Fearmara). The Book of Ballymote and Rawlinson confirm that Fiachu Fermara (or Fiach Fearmara) is the ancestor of Fergus Mac Erc and his brother Loarn - The Royal House of D

Niall stated: "So Donn Sleibe Mac Eochada and Fergus Mac Erc share a common ancestor Fiachu Fermara.

I want to take this one step further, because it has always kind of bothered me.

Rob, There is a great deal that doesn't appear to stack up. But several sources (O'Clery's Book of Genealogies, The Book of Ballymote and Rawlinson) say that Donnsliebhe MacEochadha and Fergus Mac Earca DID share a common ancestor. There is a great deal of argument about who gave Columba permission to create an abbey in Iona.
