Seeking assistance

I would like to hear from anyone who could give me help, or direct me to internet sites which will allow me to trace my Scotish ancestry. I am trying to find where my great grandfather, Alexander Livingston(e), born about 1816, in Scotland, and his wife, Flora (Lamont), born about 1822, also in Scotland, came from, and immigrated to Canada and settled in Nottawasaga Ontario. I seem to be at a dead end and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
