A Register of Emmigrants?

Post by Andrew Lancaster4 »

I think something like this has been discussed before but, while discussing some new families in the DNA project the idea occured to me that we should make a register on a webpage of all the known immigrants to the new world countries. I'd be happy to start the ball rolling by trying to collect the ones with surnames Livingston, Livingstone etc for Australia. Perhaps others could nominate themselves as collectors of details for McLea type surnames in Australia, and so on. How does that sound? Regards Andrew

I have decided to run with this one. I am setting up "The Livingstone and MacLea Emigration Registry" on my personal website, http://www.MacLea.net/ When I have the URL setup for this, I will be letting everyone know. It will be set-up in Wiki form, so it will be editable by anyone who registers for an account.

My first rudimentary page for the Registry is now up: http://MacLea.net/family/registry/ I will flesh the system out a little more over the coming weeks to make it more obvious how to add your own families. It is a little bit less intuitive than Wikipedia to edit, but I will be available (ksm6 at cornell dot edu) to assist if need be, or you can just try to add something and other users can help as need be. If people want to, they can even add more detailed pages about their families as well, as much information as they wish, there's plenty of room! More when I've updated it more! Kyle=

Well Done

Well done, Kyle. I have been wondering how to set up a database that could run itself for some years. This could be very exciting. Regards Niall

Hi Kyle Good on you. We should probably announce this on ancestry.com and genealogy.com forums as well the DNA group. Regards Andrew
