Clearances

Post by Canadian Livingstone »

As the Livingstones who settled in Australia were among the last Livingstones to leave during the clearance period in Western Argyll I would be interested in hearing from descendants of those Highland Livingstones who were victims of the clearances, forcibly expelled from their highland homeland and who made their new home in AUstralia in the 1830's, 1830's and 1850's. Those who do not comprehend the mistakes of history are only too likely to repeat them. The sad history of the Australian Livingstones in the 1840's and 1850's is the story of dispossessed tenant farmers torn from their beloved homeland of Argyll and it is a story that deserves to be told. It is our responsibility to tell the tales of our Highland ancestors and not let them be forgotten as if so often the case. We welcome our Australian brethen to share their ancestor's tales of hardship and poverty with us. regards Donald (Livingstone) Clink
