National Trust for Scotlands Annual General Meeting...
Hello David and Kyle, Yikes!!! This is worse than I thought. I think that we should talk to Niall about this as I think he needs to be briefed about these latest details and it would be great to get his feedback on all this. We have a legitimate beef, but we need to be realistic about our chances to change their minds and be certain we have a well thought out longterm strategy. I think world wide support is fine, but the main focus should be building support from Clan folks resident in Western Argyll who have some historic connection to those who participated in the Appin Regiment. I sense they will carry the most weight. In the mean time, I am working on my contacts and see if they can add their voices of concern. regards, Donald

I'm guessing Niall will see this and comment, but he's also busy.

HI Kyle, You contacted the folks on the Isle of Lismore. Thats a start. Sadly,my contact Donald MacINnes Vice President of the Clan McINnes SOciety passed away in January of 2007 I learned yesterday. Donald's family was from Drimnin, Movern and I enjoyed reading his informative exhanges ofinformation on the internet. He was very helpful with the Movern research I was doing regarding Donald Livingstone of Savary hero of the Battle of Culloden and sent me a photo of the old Livingstone gravesite at Keil Cemetery in Movern. Clan McInnes is interested in the Livingstone Gravestone with the ancient MCLea coat of arms because Donald Livingstone's mother was Ann McInnes of Movern. They apparently visit the site from time to time.I left a message with the Clan McINnes to contact me regarding the Appin Regiment. Regarding the McColls who lost a number of clan members at Culloden there were in the 1800's a number of MCColls on the Island and I am confident you or I can locate some. There does not appear to be a Clan Chief or society and in any event our best bet is get the McColls of Lismore and the surrounding area who have some sort of family connection with those in the Appin Regiment to be informed of the situation. It will be interesting to see what feedback you get from the Isle of Lismore. There is also the Movern Heritage Society I think it is. They might be the next folks to contact in the area. Then neighbouring Mull and Appin. regarding, Donald Donald

Hi Kyle, I take it there are a number of clans without chiefs. You contacted Clan McIntyre they have a well organized association. Probably would help some if we could get in touch with someone native to Scotland. I get the impression some of these clans are not based in Scotland. I suspect the more Scots we have on side the greater chance we have to get somewhere with this. regards Donald

Hi Kyle and David, I greatly regret the passing of my McInnes contact Donald McInnes of Cumbernauld. His wisdom and knowledge of highland history was second to none. He also had numerous contacts in Scotland who would have been able to give us help and support. In any event, I sense there are others in Clan McINnes who may be interested in our plight. regards, Donald

Kyle, One suggestion, I have is to get as many British historians as you can find on our side. That should begin with Christoper Duffy, military historian and author of "The 45". regards, Donald

Hi Kyle and David, There is a Virginia,USA based Appin Regiment website and a contact person there we should contact at www.appins.org./index.htm Also it might be worth contacting the Stewart Society located at www.stewartsociety.org in Scotland. In addition to Christopher Duffy there are also recent books by Peter Harrington and Stuart Reid on Culloden. I dont have a contact for them yet. regards, DOnald
