Louisburg, Wick, County of Caithness, Scotland
Does anyone know the history of Louisburg, Wick Parish, County of Caithness? Louisburg is neither Gaelic nor Norse. I am curious why a town of village in North Eastern Scotland was named Louisburg. regards, Donald

Donald, Picked this up after a wee request for information to Caithness.org website "Louisburgh was a village planned by Sir Benjamin Dunbar in 1796 on what was then open ground owned by the family above the town of Wick. he set it out in Feus at 20/- per acre on which the tenant would be expected to build a house worth at least

Hi Alec, Thanks for that. The only thing I could think of was Louisburg in Nova Scotia There was Louisburg an old French settlement in Nova Scotia and I wondering if there was some connection, but obviously not. Interesting. regard,s Donald
