Battle...
Hi Donald, The book is going to take about a month to reach me. This is because it has to be sourced from another bookseller. I look forward to refreshing my memory about the Battle of Pinkie Cleugh. I covered it in history at school, but that was a very long time ago, and I am sure I shall find the rest of the book very informative. I will let you know if anything is revealed about the presence of MacLeas at Pinkie. Regards, Jill

The Battle of Pinkie Cleugh took place on September 10, 1547, but the attacks against the Scots ordered by Henry VIII also took place in 1544 and 1545 carried out by the Duke of Somerset. The 1544 charter taking place at that time does reinforce the notion that the Baron of Bachuil with his sacred staff may have particpated in the later battle and that his clan joined with the more powerful Campbell clan. It would seem that Archibald Campbell and his cousins the Campbells of Cawdor worked in unison to both form bonds and alliances with other clans when it served their interests and also to encourage disputes among the neighbouring clans to weaken them. The sad fate of many of the Argyll clans including the Maconleas was to all to often be subject to trickery and treachery of the Campbells. regards Donald

Battle...
I can so far find no definite proof that the highland Maconleas were at the Battle of Pinkie Cleugh (1547) and it is somewhat puzzling where that information from the Wikipedia article ultimately came from. Nevertheless it is within the rhelm of possibility as I previously mentioned that the Baron and his clan at the time may have participated perhaps with the Argyll Campbells. But that is nothing more than speculation on my part. Regarding the Livingstons what is known is that Alexander Livingston the 5th Lord Livingston of Calendar of the aristocratic Lowland family was one of those assigned to look after young Mary Queen of Scots in 1545 until after the Battle of Pinkie Cleugh in 1547. His son John Master of Livingston died at the Battle of Pinkie Cleugh. Another son William became the 6th Lord Livingston of Calendar. regards Donald
