Too Quiet in Here
Thanks Donald! I guess looking for participants is one of those activities in life where you work on percentages. I write to hundreds of people each year and get a handful who are interested. I am happy to say that we will have a new Angus-shire Livingstone family in the project BTW, because that is where mine is from. I should mention that the quietness of the forum also has some other factors to blame: 1. Seasonally, in summer time many genealogists take some time off. 2. Family Tree DNA and DNA Fingerprint, the commercial labs most of us have used over the years, are still in the process of their merger. Apparently they underestimated the complexity of merging their computer systems. The end result should definitely be a positive though. Best Regards Andrew

Hi Andrew, Do people have the option of using their our own DNA labs to do the tests and just submit the results to you? That seems fair and democratic to me under the current circumstances. I would like to move the Dr. Livingstone DNA project forward as the train does not seem to be leaving the station any time soon and a relative of the Doctor has been aboard for the last few months. I am puzzled you are seemingly oblivious to this information. Donald

Hi David, I am not sure how far you have got into locating your grandfather's ancestors in lowland Scotland, but I think I have determined that the Wyses and your Livingstone family may be connected to the Wyses and Livingstones that lived in Stirlingshire with the Lowland Livingstones I have been researching. As Luck would have it one of the old Wyses and Lowland Livingstones a Robert Livingstone and Elizabeth Wyse married in Falkirk, Stirlingshire SCotland on Aug. 1663. This is not likely your ancestor, but it certainly suggests that both your Wyse ancestors and your grandfather's Livingstones ancestors may have resided in the Lowlands for a very long time. Have you located your grandfather's birth record in Scotland. Your grandfather was born in Edinburgh and his Wyse and Livingstone family roots would seem possibly in Stirlingshire with the Lowland Livingstones rather than in Western Argyll. The results of a DNA test might to be useful to prove or disprove this notion. I have located marriage records for all my Scottish ancestors, in part because unlike the IRish records most of them have survived over the centuries. Baptismal records have been a mixed success. I have a record indicating that my ancestor Miles Livingstone was baptised on the Isle of Lismore in 1775, but Miles stated on his marriage record he was born on the other side of the Island on the Movern Mainland. Perhaps he thought the Island was a part of Movern I probably will never really know for certain. We know that he came to Canada in 1812 with a brother named Donald Livingstone Jr so one suspects MIle's parents were Isle of Lismore residents Donald Livingstone and Christian Campbell that baptised their son Miles Livingstone in 1775. Just one of those genealogical dead ends one comes across from time to time. regards Donald

Dear Donald, I don't think Andrew is oblivious to the Dr's brother's line in Canada that you discovered... The last I remember about it, it sounds like he was going through some personal problems and needed some time before anything could be done.

Hi Kyle, No that is not what I am saying. I am just wondering if there is not some way if we can get results from DNA labs on our own and then submit the results to Niall and Andrew. Now it may be that only a few DNA labs do Paternal Ancestry testing, but I am curious about how many labs out there do this type of work. Could not the results from another lab be then compared with the existing results on ANdrew's web site. I think we would prefer a lab in Canada, but that may not be an option. I appreciate and am sorry to hear about Andrew's situation. My mother and my dog died in 2005 and 2006 and I have heart palpitations, troubling alergies that wont let me stop coughing and tendons in the back of my right leg that are causing me a great deal of pain. The weight however is starting to drop with 40 lbs to go to get me back my comfortable weight of 1993.

Hi Donald, Sorry I didn't focus on that. There are a number of labs available and the results can definitely be compared.

Hi Kyle, Did you mention that your McLea's have access to DNA paternal line testing that is cheap. That sounds good to me. regards Donald

You get a discount if you participate through a DNA project, such as the Livingstone/MacLea project. Many Canadians participate through these kind of projects.
