Niall If you go ahead with this, you could also ask people at the time whether they are in the DNA project, and whether they want links to and from the DNA website also to any eventual personal webpages. Rob and I presume that there will eventually have to be a main DNA webpage with lots of detailed study off-shoots. There are already a few, including my own. Those do not have to be pages I make. For example I link to some of your pages already. As you can see from Keith's question. Many people want to have people contact them about possible DNA matches, but I do not want to put the names of ALL participants on the website, because some might be concerned. For those who don't realise by the way, Rob's page is now off-line. Here is mine: http://users.skynet.be/lancaster/Discus ... Maclea.htm Comments would be appreciated. The project is driven by all the members, all making suggestions to each other. Best Regards Andrew

Andrew, As you know I run the I1c Clan Study. I have opted to host this study on a password protected site as it allows members to post their STR values and comment freely about opinions, etc. I do believe a protected environment has merit as it is a space where family information is viewed with an appropiate attitude. All the best!

I did not know that Grant. Sorry if you told me before. Have you got a website? The problem with increasing the privacy level is that you decrease the communication level with outsiders. And how will outsiders even know about you? I am interested to hear more. Regards Andrew

Hi Andrew, Two views can be offered. One that provides information regarding our activities with examples and general conclusions etc, including a newsletter of Clan activities. Further contact details can be included for regional representation so that those who are near to us can be in contact and introduced to our clan community. The other actually providing a space where dialogue is more speculative, where design time takes place and conclusions are arrived at. Our clan web-site is one of the best around. The detailed pages which the Young Bachuil has designed and posted provides a depth of information not found on many other clan sites. I think this is a strength. One concern is that many lists and forums experience viewers who may not wish to post in the public domain. They may feel that this is not so inclusive. My web-page is at MyFamily.com I'll send you the link with password, the database has approx. 320+ families now, you will see that our particular Y-DNA motifs are found throughout Scotland and Ireland. All the best!

Hello Craig, Can you tell me where you found the quote of the McLeas of Lindsaig going to Ireland, one to Donegal? Thanks in advance!

Hi Roderic Are you interested in the DNA project? Maybe finding that you are related to someone who has already done more genealogy will be a great way to jump start yours. Best Regards Andrew

A small start: On the DNA project discussion webpage I am going to take advantage of the east link-adding option to put a link to any webpages I know (even ones on messages boards on on THIS thread) that explains any particular DNA project participant. The DNA project is of course only an OVER-LAPPING population with this one, but I thought it worth mentioning. Anyone in the project should propose a good page for your own family story. Andrew
