Saint Andrew's Day Parade

Post by Bachuil »

Who would like to join in the fun? Edinburgh, Saturday 26th November 2005 - Can we muster a small party? This email was sent to me by the organisers. Regards, Niall Assemble at East Market Street (just up from the Hebrides Bar) at 11:30 am. March commences 12 noon prompt. The march will be led by the Stockbridge Pipe Band. Route:  from  East Market Street, across Waverly Bridge then turning left onto Princes Street, carrying on down Princes Street and up Lothian Road, and finishing at Festival Square. There will be a PA system set up here for the speakers, who will include eminent author and historian David R. Ross and others to be announced. Speeches will not last beyond an hour.  All are welcome, this is a family event to celebrate our patron saint - not a political event, although politicians are welcome to participate as citizens of Scotland.  They will not, however, be allowed to turn it into yet another dreary day.  Bring your saltires and banners and carry them proudly!  Let the world see our pride in our nation! Please pass this information on to your members, and to any other persons or organisations you feel may be appropriate.  We hope to make this event a success, so that it will become an annual event, and not just a one-off. Scotland is one of the few nations on earth which does not celebrate it's Saint's day or Independence Day.  We hope to change that.  Please help us to do so. It is planned to hold an evening event in the function Room of the Cafe Royal, just off Princes Street.  Please check the website for further details as they are announced, including the bands who will be playing. Tickets may be at a premium so please let us know if you plan to attend the evening event. Photographs from the previous year's events can be found on our website, http://www.standrewsdayrally.com
