Just a short note to tell everyone the 1851 census for Scotland is now on-line on the Scotland's people website.

A slight word of caution. The indexing is not perfect and may have some errors. I tried looking up an entry for Mary (Livingstone) McPhee which I had previously seen on microfiche at the Mitchell Library in Glasgow and could not find it. The good news is that when I contacted Scotland's People they said they would look into any instances of mis-indexing that were drawn to their attention and would sort these out as soon as they could. Meanwhile there may still be some problems or gaps.

Yes, there are such errors for sure. I have found Laings transcribed as Livings and Lairds transcribed as Livids. But they have scans of the census, so if you are careful, it is often possible to work around these problems. Regards Andrew
