I have recently obtained a copy of "The Oldest: A Facinating List of Britain's Oldest Everything" by Julian Calder and Alastair Bruce (see http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASI ... ct-details for details). It is a lovely hard-back coffee table book and is full of fascinating nonsense!

Kyle, I know of no older title - the oldest in England is the Baron de Ros - created in 1264. Likewise, I know of no other titles currently held by the Grace of God - apart from the Queens.

Very educational, Niall! I suspected, of course, that you wouldn't have posted that your father held the oldest title if you didn't believe it were true -- so it's good to hear more about it! Very interesting, all.
