Dear Henry, As I'm sure you know, the Livingstones and McLeas spread far and wide.

Many Scottish families in the new world were on the move for several generations, and arrived not directly from Scotland, but either from Ireland or one of the bigger industrial or trading cities of England or Scotland. One branch of my Livingston research shows a family that moved from Glamis, first to nearby Dundee, and then one branch moved to Liverpool, and another to Great Yarmouth. The possibility that Livingstone might have an English version is a thing which the late Rob Livingston considered for a while. I believe he eventually found no evidence for any such thing. So I'd be 100% confident that your Livingstones were in Scotland at some point. Many people under-rate the amazing way in which our 19th century ancestors saw their world change. Families that had lived in one parish for centuries suddenly started moving around at an amazing rate. Best Regards Andrew
