Hello! I'm hoping to find a connection with someone working on my McLae/McLea line! All I know is: Christian McLae, born: about 1735, married John Smith, born: about 1731 in Scotland. They married in Bo'ness, on February 19, 1757. Their daughter, Jean, born: November 35, 1757, in Bo'ness, married my William Pride on May 18, 1782. Their son Alexander changed the Pride name to Phillips in Ontario, Canada. Hope to hear from you! Sincerely, Marcia Phillips Locher in Oregon, USA

Hi Marcia, I am researching Highland Macleas later known as highland Livingstones, so I cant help you much with Lowland MacLeas of which I know little about. In all probability some of the MacLeas or McLeas that live in the Lowlands today had ancestors connected to ours.

Dear Donald As far as I know, all lowland MacLeas are thought to descend from the highland ones. Such movement from highland to lowland was common already in the late middle ages. Best Regards Andrew

Hi Andrew, Perhaps I should have said "most" MacLeas. The 1743 manuscript certainly leaves little doubt of the connection between the Highland and Lowland MacLeas. regards, Donald (Livingstone)Clink
