New York State Livingstons

Post by Canadian Livingstone »

The story of this Livingston family is well documented and researched by their kin I have noticed. It is interesting story. In short, John Livingstone a nonconformist Presbyterian minister related to the aristocratic Lowland Livingston family of Callendar was banished from Scotland in 1663, shortly after the restoration of Charles II for his oppinions. Generally these lowland Livingstons were Episcopalian and Jacobite supporters of the Stuarts, but there were a few exceptions such as John. He fled to ROtterdam, Holland with his young son Robert Livingston who was born in 1654 in Ancrum, Roxburghshire, Scotland. Robert came to America in 1673 and was eventually granted land in Dutchess County in the then Province of NEw York from Govenor Thomas DUgan in the year 1686. Subsequently, King George I bestowed upon Livingston a royal charter and he became the first Lord of Livingson Manor. Descendants of this Robert Livingston as previously mentioned figured prominently in the government of Dutchess County. The family supported the Revolution and were involved the government of new State of New York. regards Donald (Livingstone) Clink
