Standing Council of Scottish Chiefs

Post by Bachuil »

Dear Kinsmen and Kinswomen, It is with great pleasure that I can report that today I attended, on behalf of my father, my first meeting of the Standing Council of Scottish Chiefs in Edinburgh. It was an interesting two-hour meeting attended by approximately fifty chiefs.

Dear Niall, This is all most exciting and, God willing, you can count me in. Although July 2009 is a long way off at present, it would be good if as many of the clan as possible can register an interest in what I am sure will be an amazing event. I, for one, look forward to hearing more about it in due course. Regards, Jill

I am highly interested... an excuse to finally take a trip to Scotland... yup highly interested. :) I agree it is better to plan sooner, then later. During the meeting were there any numbers thrown around on how many people per clan would be attending? Let's low ball the figure and say 100 per clan.. that is only 8,000 people, which could mean 8,000 rooms in Edinburgh are going to fill up... now it is more likely that with the MacGregors, Sinclairs, Frasers, MacDonalds, Stewarts and Campbells that the real number of such a huge event will be 25 - 50,000 attending and hotels will get scarce fast. Throwing out ideas I would say trying to get the entire LivingstoneMcLea clan in the same Hotel would be wonderful, and might even get the Hotels to give a group discount. If for logistical reasons we can't all get the same hotel then I would suggest trying to stay in a small area of hotels so that shuttling people around to meet others would be a smart idea. Looking at Google the only Hotel that pops up ON Holyrood Rd is a "MacDonald Holyrood Hotel" and it only has 156 bedrooms. So if we look for grouping there is a "Travelodge", "Granada Group", "Radisson SAS", "Scotsman Hotel", and "the Bank Hotel" all in near proximity of each other. My thought would be to get a plan together now and the moment the dates are set book the Hotels before the other clans take all the rooms. More ideas to follow. :) David

Sounds like a good time.Would be very interested in attending.Sure i could get a few Mcleay's from the North East of Scotland interested also . Going away on annual lads sail tomorrow and will be sailing past Lismore on Saturday on way to Western Isles and St Kilda weather permitting . No time to stop at Lismore on Saturday but hopefully will have on way home in 2 weeks. When I visited last year a new Heritage centre was being completed which will hopefully now be open. Need to get my kilt looked out. I've had it for 25 years bought at a kilt factory in Edinburgh from a man who swore to me it was Mcleay tartan ! He did look up loads of books ! Not so sure it is having read some of the discussion on this forum.

Sounds like a great idea to me. I love that town. And like Gerald I too have been to the Witchery and love the food and the amazing atmosphere of that place. I had pheasant soup and venison as I recall the last time I was there. Donald
