Viking Treasure

Post by Canadian Livingstone »

You may have heard that a large horde of Viking treasure was recently found in Northumbria using a metal detector. Northumbria in Northern England had at one time been a Viking settlement so it seems like it was good place to look for Viking treasure. It was common for Vikings to sometimes bury their valued possessions or loot and some golden Viking objects located on the Isle of Lismore itself is on display at their newly built heritage center. As their are a number of low priced metal detectors are on the market for amateur treasure hunters I would imagine the British Isles has many potential sites where old coins and other potential treasure might be located on beaches and elsewhere. Of course there are possible restrictions and rules about ownership of located treasure no doubt. In any event I think it would be an interesting hobby, but one which would require a great deal of patience. D
