Hello Everyone, Kyle, Excellent written letter, thank you for taking the time to draft it. Few points that I would like to get people's thoughts on. 1.) Should it be addressed to Deirdre Smyth? I ask because I am hoping that a lot of mail will be sent on this issue and part of me thinks "Don't shoot the messenger". On the other hand my original request about the marker was forwarded to her, as she is the Property Manager so maybe she should be the point of contact for this... 2.) The listing of the clansdeadwounded. Was it written in the Muster Roll in that order? I am a column and excel loving fool and am wondering if we should sort the list to give it some order.. my first thought is sort by Dead followed by Wounded followed by Clan so there is some reasoning to it.. or just by Clan name in alphabetical order. Sorting by Dead seems more dramatic. 3.) What is the best method of sending this letter? In today's age I would think an email is the quickest method but there is something about having a printed letter hit someones desk. If people choose email then the address for Ms. Deirdre Smyth is first intial of her first name followed by all of her last name (dsmyth), at nts.org.uk General enquiries to the National Trust for Scotland would go to information - at- nts.org.uk If written and mailed I would send it to either Ms. Deirdre Smyth's address in Kyle's letter or the general post at: The National Trust for Scotland Wemyss House, 28 Charlotte Square Edinburgh, Scotland United Kingdom EH2 4ET Anyone elses thoughts?

Kyle, I know a Macintyre that would be willing to send a signed copy of your letter on your/our behalf also, I have not mentioned it to him but I know him well enough that he would.

This is what I've done, so we don't reproduce a lot of the same steps, since Kyle wrote the letter. Yesterday I made a list of Society emails for the Stewarts, Carmichaels, Macintyres, MacKenzies, Hendersons, MacCormacks or Buchanans, MacLachlans, MacArthurs, MacDonalds. I sent them all a copy of the template and requested that they look into if their clan was invovled with he decision making process and if they feel like we do to send the letters to the National Trust for Scotland. I then went into some MySpace Scottish Groups and requested the same from them. Lastly I did some research and found the names of the Chairperson of the National Trust, the Director of Conservation and Property Services, and the Staff of the National Trust for Scotland Foundation USA, Inc. Executive Director and when I sent the template to
culloden@nts.org.uk I Cc: them all. Hopefully this gets the attention of someone in the position to make the decisions and with other emails and post letters coming in we might be able to get some real results. I looked up Mike McIntyre and John Duncan from the Friends of Scotland Caucus but could not find a ready email. They have filtered emails that use a webpage to get to them. So if anyone is in their district or have other connections to bring this to some ones attention please do so. Thank You. David

Hi Kyle, Well done Kyle!! I think your letter addresses our concerns with great clarity of thought. I shall contact Donald McInnes of Movern Clan McInnes who kindly submitted the picture of Donald Livingstone's parents gravestone at Movern. There are apparently lowland and highland Clan Carmichaels. There is just one clan as far as I know but it was the Clan Carmichaels who long ago migrated from the lowlands to highlands that particpated in the Appin Regiment. McColl I dont know much about and MacCombich i could not find anything. Niall might have some more insight regarding local representatives of these other clans who ancestors lived in Movern/Lismore/Appin area and served in the Appin regiment. To my way of thinking these are the folks who would really be the most upset about this situation regarding the Appin regiment. regards DOnald

Indeed, those should be the most interested parties, I would think.
