Hello Donald, Thank you for finding this picture I was unable to find any picture of the marker but I did find a "photo video" at Youtube.com Your picture, year unknown: http://www.pbase.com/nnorland/image/20918352 YouTube video (go to 0:35 out of 2:37) and you will see a marker saying "Stewarts of Appin and MacLaren" but it doesn't say "Appin Regiment" The video said it is from summer 2006. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FtvmyVk_6CI But another one posted August of 2006 shows the same marker you have: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0fbHNh3X1yg (2:00 of 6:46) so maybe their are two locations... I am unsure. David

I disputed that very fact, as well as the claim that th emarker was "Stewart and MacLaren" for 30 years without dispute... If it was without dispute how did it get changed to just "Appin Regiment" for these temporary markers... someone most likely disputed it and won a few years back.. and now the dispute rages on again. Also the "if we change it it will add to the confusion and emotions".. that wasn't reasonable either as the only two clans that would wonder what happened was the Stewarts and maclaren, all other clans would have been confused with it staying Stewarts and Maclaren... But now I am just venting. :) David

Hi DAvid, I think I got this all figured out. They figure if they drive us nuts with inaccurate and conflicting information, we wont know what were talking about and we will make complete fools of ourselves. THis is getting to be more and more like an episode of Seinfeld or maybe Monty Pythons Flying CIrcus or perhaps both. regards, Donald

HI David, My hunch and I could be wrong is that Nancy Norland's photo is of the wooden marker marked Appin Regiment. THere is a date at the bottom dated August 2003 she added I presume. Go to her website. I think she connected with Clan McLaren if I not mistaken. THere are lots of other excellent Culloden photos on the website. regards, Donald

Note this map indicating Stewarts of Appin & MacLarens: http://www.pbase.com/nnorland/image/20918341 Grave stone that will not be altered: http://www.pbase.com/nnorland/image/20918342 She's definitely a Maclaren based on her attending their USA AGM, but still her picture from Aug 2003 shows the view from where the Appin Regiment stood and includes the Appin Regiment sign as previously shown by Donald. Kyle= PS I was/am confused as well.

Hi Kyle, I just got an e-mail from Kevin Livingstone that may explain the situation. He has a photo of the wooden marker with the most recent changes, so obviously since 2003 probably fairly recently they changed the wooden marker from Appin Regiment to say as we know Stewarts of Appin and McLarens (There is also a gaelic translation included). So putting this altogether it would seem that in the days long ago of the forestry commission, it stated for 30 odd years or so Stewarts of Appin and McLaren, then for some reason they or the National Trust changed in to the more appropriate Appin Regiment. How long it remained Appin Regiment is still not known, but since 2003 the McLarens managed to get it changed to Stewarts of Appin and McLarens. I am hoping we can eventually eliminate any confusion here and get all the facts straight in our minds. regards, Donald
