Who is the NTS

Post by D.W.Livingston »

Pulled from http://www.nts.org.uk/About/ - With over 297,000 members it is the largest conservation charity in Scotland and it depends for its support on donations, legacies, grants and membership subscriptions. - Established in 1931, at the initiative of ruralScotland, the Trust acts as guardian of the nation's magnificent heritage of architectural, scenic and historic treasures. As an independent charity, not a government department, I am unsure if the NTS owns the properties that they manage. As an independent organization not under the government I would think that they are in fact owners of the properties and it would be like someone in France emailing a person in Lousianna to say that on their front lawn they need a plaque stating that family XYZ fought their during..... BUT I may be mistaken. David

Sounds like you're right in terms of structure. We can also try either stick (our continued letters) or carrot, if we want results.

I am holding out a bit longer for hope, especially if this Sunday Times article might come through.

Who is the NTS

Post by D.W.Livingston »

Hello Donald, I for one think that no one has caved in as of yet. :) I know I have not. We have contacted the Societies and Clan Chiefs associated withthe Appin Regiment, I contacted every newspaper listed at http://www.onlinenewspapers.com/scotland.htm and have at least one write up in the Press and Journal. I jsut did a google search for Appin Regiment, because I saw that our clan was in a lot of the google results and just saw: http://fusilier.wordpress.com/2007/10/0 ... -culloden/ which was pulled from http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jh ... lan128.xml (more on this in another thread). I hope that the LivingstoneMacLea clan had at least 10 - 20 individuals that mailed off letters to the NTS and possibly local legislature bodies. Plus since we let the other clans know we have had the widow of the chief of Clan MacDonald in Glengarry physically bring it up to the President and Chairman of the NTS and some clan societiy Presidents have petitioned as well. So the fight is progressing Right now I think we need to work on getting those people in Appin, and around Scotland to know but this will take everyone able body to contact anyone they know.. like those spam emails for Nigerian Bankers, or "send a Hug" that goes around the world 20 times we need to get the word out. If you would like to focus on getting members for the Culloden Battlefield Reform Association that would be wonderful. You can most likely contact the Clan Chiefs and Societies that are listed in http://www.clanmclea.co.uk/forum/show-m ... sp?ID=3263 and see who is receptive to this worthwhile endeavour and start forming them. Everyone who fights needs to do it in the manner they are comfortable. I seem to be the type that runs around and yells, not very politically accurate about it (see the news articles) but it is who I am. I have gone to websites and posted blogs and tried to get the word out by mass "electronic mailing". The problem is on trying to track what has been done as I am sure the NTS won't have a banner with what has been sent to them. :) So we shall fight on with this good fight and each person is to use their personal strengths to get this going from all sides. The Highland Spirit is Always Strong!!! :) David
