Chelsea Pensioner Records /Napoleonic War soldiers

Post by Canadian Livingstone »

The National Archives of Britain is in the process of copying and making a available on line the Chelsea Pensioner records from Chelsea Hospital which among other military personnel contains the names of a number of highland and lowland Livingstons that served in the Napoleonic War. As it is apparently a work still in progress hopefully more names will appear on the list. regards, Donald

Although the Jacobite clans may have lost the Battle of Culloden it was not lost upon the British Army officers that the highland opponents were brave warriors and would make excellent soldiers if they could someday be recruited into the British Army. A decade or so after the Battle of Culloden, former Jacobite soldiers were in fact recruited into a highland army and particpated in the battles to conquer New France. regards, Donald
