Dear Niall, You may recall our earlier correspondence where I mentioned the Mac Swiney miles/maolmuire correlation. I am most interested to see further examples. Charles

There was also a Myles MacBean who supported Mackintosh against the Red Comyn at the Battle of Harlaw in the year 1411. It would be interesting to determine if there are early MacBean records with that spelling and whether or not the gaelic name for servant of Mary or servant of Jesus was used by some of his ancestors. In 1745 MacBeans fought at the Battle of Culloden with Clan Mackintosh, but also some served with Lochiel and the Camerons.

Hi Niall, Absolutely Myles is Maelmoire as Neil is Niall. Myles, according to those familiar with Gaelic name origins, was the accepted English substitute for Maelmoire. Apparently from the 17th century onwards as Gaelic names were being replaced by English, Myles was used to anglicize names beginning with Mael or Maol such as Maelmoire.
