Re: Nova Scotia/PEI Livingstone Research
Hi Barry,
I should think that Angus will enjoy your history. I would be happy to write something on John Livingston Jr. I am hoping however to get more info on John before I right the final chapter on his life. I am told there were no grants for John Livingston Sr and Jr. They just apparently settled on the Mull RIver property. Jewel has found information in the Cape Breton Society record collection that John Livingston Jr. probbably had squatter rights up to 1854 and perhaps later his widow old Kate or his son Hugh formally purchased the land. I dont know but I would like to study this closer but finishing their story.
regards,
Donald

Hi All
Found this group of interesting threads.
http://boards.ancestry.co.uk/localities ... 02/mb.ashx
Does anyone have an account for this site. I tried to send Alison a reply to her posts, but I got an error. Likely because I don't have a paid account.
She has some interesting information that needs some sorting out.
Here is the URL for all of her posts. It is two years since her last post on the site, but hopefully her email address is still active.

Hey
I found her email address in a post. I have sent her an email message. Have any of you spoken to her before. I see she is from British Columbia. If I get a response I will see if she will participate in the forum.

Hi Barry,
I had contact with Allison in 2007 through e-mails . She said her family was familiar with my Low Point Livingstones and that she had a trunk load of old diaries and letters from her uncle Harrison who was the son I think of William Livingstone who was married to Sara McClean, William was the son of Alexander Livingston who was married to Isobel Deeson. I had some high hopes of what she would come across in her trunk of treasures as she said she was trying to read her way through them. I had 3 0r 4 e-mails from her then she just stopped communicateing, but did say she was related to our Livingstones. I will have to go back and read her letters. Harrison was married to Elizabeth Matteson and he served in WWI.
I was really disappointed to loose the contact.

Hi Jewel
I noticed a post where she spoke of Angus Livingstone arriving in Cape Breton in 1819 and his son was 6 years old. That would put Alex at the same age as Alex from Whycocomagh. She also has many references in her emails to Colin Livingstone which is interesting. A post also says that there was a Colin Livingston that went to PEI from Pictou in 1813 which is very interesting.
Maybe I will hear from her

Hi Barry,
That is interesting, I do remember her saying that Harrison, her uncle was the brother of William Angus who was married to Edith Clarke, their father was William. I sure wish we could contact her again.

Re: Nova Scotia/PEI Livingstone Research
Hi Barry and Jewel.
Taking things piece by piece the first message appears to be an exchange from two descendants of Angus Livingston b.1773 who settled at Bras d'or around 1819. Roderick they speak of was Angus Livingston's youngest son born 1810 died 1870. So in the first message they are talking of Bras d'or Livingstons of Victoria County, Cape Breton. Following this there is another message linking her family tree to Mary Livingston of Bras d'or so having not read futher my first assumption was that she is saying she is descended from ANgus Livingston of Bras d'or. Thats from the first couple of Bras d'or messages. Looks like there are more messages about Pilotage. Will check them out to get more clues. So far i follow she is saying she is decended from Angus Livingston of Bras d'or it looks like. Stay tuned.
regards,
Donald

Re: Nova Scotia/PEI Livingstone Research
Hi Jewel and Barry,
It is interesting that her family history source has stated a connection between John Livingston and Ann McGillverary of Low Point and ANgus Livingston of Bras d'or. I suspect what was meant was a possible connection between John Livingston Sr. who married Catharine McPhee and ANgus Livingston of Bras d'or. It has been suggested that John Livingston Sr. and Angus might have been cousins or even brothers. Others have linked old Malcolm Livingston who settled at Cape George in the 1790's as kin to Angus Livingston of Bras d'or. No one has however offered any proof of this. I myself prefer "may have been kin". Regardless, I think it a worthwhile effort for you to try and contact this person and let them know of the Maritime Livingston research goin on here and compare notes. No doubt this early family researcher mentioned may have put together some early family info of the Bras d'or family of old ANgus which consisted of Laughlin (went back to Scotland), Archibald, Alexander, Mary and Roderick.

Donald

Re: Nova Scotia/PEI Livingstone Research
Hi Jewel,
Sounds like you and Roberta have previously made contact with this descendant of Angus Livingston through his son ALexander Livingston and Isabella Deeson. Oddly enough I have also been contacted by a descendant of ALexander Livingston but it was a different person whose family still owns property in Bras d'or. I must try and get in touch with her again. It seems there may have been a notion among the two families they were connected and it is unfortunate that there is no apparent proof. Evidently not everyone is convinced of the connection. I would like to however hear everyone's theories. I have not been able to make contact Ann Capstick who has done alot of research on the Bras d'or Livingstons and has a web site devoted to Bras d'or Livingstons. Alot of those Bras d'or Livingstons were mariners I believe.

Donald
