Re: Nova Scotia/PEI Livingstone Research
Hi Jewel,
Hmm? I wonder who this James Livingston is? He and his wife may be in the 1881 Canadian Census I would assume.
Perhaps they were residents of PEI or Nova Scotia.
regards,
Donald

Re: Nova Scotia/PEI Livingstone Research
Hi Jewel,
James Livingston, his wife Mary and the rest of the family are residents of Sackville, Westmorland,New Brunswick according to the 1881 Canadian census although they were born and lived for a time in Nova Scotia. By about the mid 1860's James and Mary and tthe older children went to PEI. Then around 1873 they went to New Brunswick, briefly returned to Nova Scotia around 1876 and then a year or two later returned to New Brunswick. With what you found out the family appears to have been
James Livingston born abt. 1831 or 1833 Nova Scotia
Mary born abt. 1845 Nova Scotia
Emmanuel b. 1865 b. Nova Scotia
James born b.1866 Nova Scotia
John b. 1868 PEi
George b.1871 PEI
Mary b.1870 born PEI
Sarah b.1873 New Brunswick
Ellsworth b.1876 Nova Scotia
Margaret (Maggie) b.1878 New Brunswick
William b. 1884
regards,
Donald

Re: Nova Scotia/PEI Livingstone Research
Hello Donald,
Thanks for finding that information, this family moved around quite a bit I see. You have to wonder what drew them to P.E.I., maybe other family members? I looked in the 1910 U.S. census and Mary Livingstone the wife of James was a widow and only her son William was living with her in Woburn Mass., so her husband,James died between 1900 and 1910 in Mass.

Hi Barry;
James Morris Livingston b. March 30, 1866; Pugwash, N.S. born to James Livingston and
Mary Jane Grassie or Gracie had a brother Emmanuel.
James and Mary Jane were married 1863, Wallace, Cumberland County.
John Grassie, teacher, born in Scotland died age 78 in 1871. Oh dear, John was a Bachelor.
While John Grassie b. c. 1793 Scotland and died a Grassie. I believe the name Grassie evolved, over time, to Gracie.
Regards;
Roberta

Re: Nova Scotia/PEI Livingstone Research
Hi Roberta and Barry,
Interesting that the family moved around a lot. James was a mariner according to the 1881New Brunswick Census so I guess he and the family travelled around alot. Dont know anything about Livingstons in Pugwash or Cumberland County, Nova Scotia. Thats a new one for me. As James was born around 1831 or 1833 in Nova Scotia and his parents were born in Scotland then they must have arrived in Nova Scotia prior to 1831/1833. James Livingston's death record may list the name of his parents. It may or may not be listed on their marriage record. I would presume they were married in Nova Scotia and that they died in Massachusetts but I am not 100% certain of that.
regards,
Donald

Re: Nova Scotia/PEI Livingstone Research
Hi Donald;
Pugwash 1861 Census John Livingstone 5 males 1 female
Pugwash 1861 Census James Livingstone 1 male; I guess he wasn't married, yet. John could be his father as they are living
close to each other.
Wallace 1861 Census John Livingston 1 male
Wallace 1861 Census Angus Livingston 3 males 2 females
Advocate Harbour 1861 Census Thomas Livingston 1 male 4 females
Advocate Harbour 1861 Census Alice Livingstone 2 males 4 females
Pugwash is right on the water. An important Nova Scotia Port.
All of the above are in Cumberland County.

Roberta

Hi Kyle,
So I guess Pugwash is our first clue as to the origin of this Livingston family.

Donald
