Hi All

I thought everyone might like this. This is a transcription and I didn't do it. Notice I chose one of the Allan Livingston's and expect it is actually Collin by mistake. It is a transcription of all Livingston's in the Nova Scotia 1861 census. I thought it might be helpful to have this all in one location.

John Livingston - Sydney
Alice Livingston - Cumberland
James Livingston - Digby
Duncan Livingston - Sydney
Christy Livingston - Cape Breton
John Livingston - Cumberland
Archibald Livingston - Cape Breton
John Livingston - Cape Breton
Moss C Livingston - Sydney
Alex? Livingston - Cape Breton
John Livingston - Sydney
Thomas Livingston - Cumberland
Jane Livingston - Inverness
Malcolm Livingston - Sydney
Kitty Livingston - Inverness
Allan (Collin?) Livingston - Inverness
Hugh Livingston - Pictou
William Livingston - KIngs
Angus Livingston - Sydney
Lauchlin Livingston - Cape Breton
Malcolm Livingston - Inverness
Duncan Livingston - Sydney
Mary Livingston - Sydney
L Livingston - Cape Breton
Angus Livingston - Cumberland
Mary Livingston - Pictou
Alexander Livingston - Sydney
John Livingston - Cape Breton
Alen Livingston - Inverness
Allan Livingston - Sydney
Flora Livingston - Inverness
James Livingston - Cumberland
John Livingston - Cumberland

HI Barry,

If the person copying the llist was familiar with your Colin Livingston of Whycocomagh when perushing through the 1861 Census he could easily have mistaken the smudgy mess for Allan instead of Colleen or Colin. I suspect that is what happened. The Cape Breton Genealogy and Historical Society had it as Colleen Livingston and that is what I read it as though I grant you the smudge does not help legitibility.

Hi All

My grandfather was named John "Johnnie" Duncan Livingston. Now folks in the community always called him Johnnie Duncan when referring to him. It was almost like he wasn't a Livingstone but was a Duncan. Has anyone found situations where last names have been recorded when it has actually been middle names? I have some family members that have just disappeared. With so many John Livingston's maybe in some cases they were recorded as first and last name, as errors.

Hi All

In the 1891 Canada census there is a widow Catherine Livingstone, aged 62, living with a Stewart family in Summerside PEI. Does anyone know anything about her? She would fit the bill for Colin's widow and she was born in Scotland. The relationship to the head of the household is an abbreviation of "L". Anyone know what the "L" means. I don't think it is a servant is it? She would have been old enough to have Colin's family, but is quite a bit younger than Colin. She would have been born in 1829, while Colin was born in 1818. This would leave her being married about 15 or 16 years of age and having their first child shortly after.

HI Barry,

I dont know enough about Colin's Livingston's wife to say how old she may have been. What was her last name again?

HI Donald

I have a document that says that she was a Gilleo, but I think Gillis is likely the proper name. Gillis is a fairly common name in Cape Breton and PEI. So I wonder has anyone access to see if they can find a Catherine Gillis born in 1829 or 1828?

Hi, sorry am temporarily on the back burner am part of Angus livingstone from Big Bras d'or, Cape Breton. My Great Uncle Harrison was sure Angus had a brother Colin who went to PEI around 1795 - 1810 time.
Also He had some contact with cousins in PEI around WWI so obviously though they were related. Have recently got two trunks full of letters and diaries etc from my parents/ Grand-parents/Aunts/Great Uncles etc, good old scottish heritage nothing was thrown away and mainly sidetracked by WWI diaries at the moment and trying to get my mothers knowledge down which is fading she was born 1920.----- I will get back to it eventually Allan McLeod a cousin is also involved and part time West Coast part time Cape Breton so he has been following up on some.
