Re: Nova Scotia/PEI Livingstone Research
Hi Barry;
Oh Barry, thank you. I hope Alison does come on the forum. A few years ago Jewel sent me all her e mails and she mentioned about all the paper she had relating to our Livingstones. I hoped that she would honour us with her wealth of information. Some of which she mentioned in her mail. This is very exciting news for me and I am sure for Jewel, as well.
Thanks again, Barry.
Regards;
Roberta

Hi Mary-Ann,
No the Maclea Livingstone Forum is very much alive and well. I was on holidays last week, but I am back. There are from time to time quiet times but we have actually been busy with Livingston genelogical research in a number of areas actually some of it forum based some of it not. Roberta, Jewel, Barry and Kyle are generally interacting with the forum and its visitors on a regular basis if not myself. Sorry if things have appeared to be quiet. Genealogy is actually only one part of the Clan Maclea Livingstone activity as we are in the process of forming a fully operational Clan Society with a membership.
regards,
Donald

Hi All
I have not seen this site before and is very interesting. Not specifically Livingston, but this is somewhere I would like to visit.

Hi Barry,
That would be an interesting place to visit, particulary those who have Scottish roots on Cape Breton Island and Napoleonic War Veteran Angus Livingston settled in the Bras d'or Lake area in the early 1800's.
regards,
Donald

Re: Nova Scotia/PEI Livingstone Research
Hi All
I went to the archives a couple of weeks ago, although nothing earth shattering found, I did find a few tidbits of info. Also, just curious, is anyone going to the Canadian Curling Championships in Halifax? My wife and I are going, and I hope to have a chance to go to the archives....if I can drag my wife away from the curling for awhile.
When my GGrandfather, Angus, married, the witnesses were Angus and Christine Lamont, and they were married in Georgetown, PEI.
I found a John Livingston and Margaret Gillis who were married July 24, 1867. This would be Colin Livingston's son. They were married by Charles Clay, J.P. This is interesting because Charles Clay was the JP around that time from the Dundas area, and Charles Clay was also involved in the Dundas Rum Riot a few years before. Also of interest is that Margaret actually was a Gilis, which is the same maiden name of Catherine, her husband's mother.
I also found the marriage license of GGrandfather's sister Mary to John Martin and the Bondsman is showing as Angus Livingston. They married April 9, 1880.
I also found the marriage record for Donald and Ann Wheeler of Murray River. They were married in 1841, so I had suspected that Donald was related to old Kate, and not sure whether this date helps or hampers that theory.

Hi Barry;
Is this the same Donald Livingstone born to Malcolm Livingstone and Elizabeth McPhail January 10, 1841 at West River?

Re: Nova Scotia/PEI Livingstone Research
Hi Roberta
I don't believe he is from West River. I have a theory that he is the son of John Livingstone Sr. from Whycocomagh, and a brother of my Colin, but it is just a hunch I have. Here is an email from Kay Lamb, who is related to this Donald. I also suspect he may be connected to Old Kate, who is the same married to John of Mull River. I was also talking to an old neighbor of mine the other day, John Livingston, his grandfather was Dan Livingston of High Bank. He did not know anything of a Donald Livingston of Murray River. This Donald Livingston is the only person that remotely would match the birthdate of Colin's brother in NS, NB, and PEI. I also found he was issued a tavern license in lot 63, in 1865.
.......................................
From Kay Lamb:
He was born between 1816 and 1821 by a number of records. I have no
positive date. I also have no information of any family for him.
He was born in PEI and his parents were both born in Scotland. Because of
this you know that his mother, at least, was in PEI at the time of his birth
and I am sure his father probably was too.
I have a record of all his children which I have traced except for Catherine
[Kate]. My mother told me who they all were and she named a daughter Kate.
The census shows that she must have existed. Most of his family scattered
but I have tracked them all.
He has been named in records a merchant; teacher; had the P.O. and Land
Agent. I think he was all of those. My grandmother told me he taught in
Gaelic at one time and had to change to English.
