Livingston - Culsalmond, Aberdeenshire

Post by Seaoceanbay »

Thank you for allowing me to post in your website. My Livingston line traces back to Culsalmond, Aberdeenshire to a marriage in 1772 , George Livingston & Jannet (Janet) Anderson .
Later, a family member migrated to the Augus area. Wondering if anyone would have knowledge of this Livingston line.

Hi there,

My ancesters are from Rayne in Aberdeen and I have been trying to find a link to the couple you have mentioned, as they have appeared in my searches on several occasions.

I look forward to seeing if anthing develops through this post.

Kind regards,

Hello Seaoceanbay

This from the 1841 Scottish Census Insch Parish, Aberdeenshire, Mill of Wardes
George Livingston b.1776
Ann age 40
Ann age 15
William age 15
Patrick age 13
Margaret age 10
Magdelene age 6

William Livingston b. 1781 Mill of Knockenbaird
Magdelene age 50

1851 Scottish Census Insch Parish, Aberdeenshire
Magdelene Livingston b. 1789 Culsomond
George Livingston b. 1846 nephew b. Culsomond
George Livingston b.1846 grandson b. Culsomond (Culsamond Parish, Aberdeenshire)

I get the impression that this Livingston family group is connected to some villages in Culsamond parish where a number of Livingston families are residing in the 1841 Census and to Insch Parish where for example related family members seem to have lived at one time or another in the vicinity of the Mill of Knockenbaird which you also mentioned from one of the records you located. Some of the villages in Culsamond Parish such as Colby where Livingstons lived were a few miles from Insh Parish. There are marriage records of Livingstons dating from the year 1739 in Insch Parish so it is conceivable that your Aberdeenshire Livingston family line connects in some way to a branch of the attainted, aristocratic Lowland Livingston family line.

Some of the Culsamond Livingston families in the 1800\s lived at Sanchenloan?,Colby, Sheela Green and Upper Jericho if that is any help. Colby is about three miles from Insch Parish. There is little doubt the Culsamond and Insch Livingstons are the same family but you probably have already figured this out.

Hi Bryan,

Insh, Culsamond and Rayne Parishes are in close proximity to one another in Aberdeenshire so I would think there is very good chance that a number of the Livingstons that show up in the 18th and 19th century records in these parishes are related one would suspect. Among the Insh and Culsamond group, George Livingston seems to a popular name.
