Thank you Kyle,

What we know is that these families descend from one of the son's of the old MacLea Baron's of Linsaig, part of the Achnacree branch in Appin.

These folk took refuge in Ireland after they could not return to Scotland due to military service under the Earl of Argyle, Chief of the powerful Clan Campbell who supported Phillip III. of Spain in the Dutch Wars of the 1630's. My view and that shared by the Clan Campbell Genealogist is that this MacLea family also descended from the Campbell's and other local Clan's such as the ancient MacEwen's of Otter whose lands were next to the MacLea's of Linsaig.

Hi Grant,

I believe there are some individuals with probable 17th century Donegal McClea or McClay origins participating in the Maclea Livingstone DNA Project if I am not mistaken. ANdrew Lancaster and Kyle Mclea may have more information on that.
regards,
Donald
