Duncan Livingston and Betsy McBride of KilfinanParish Argyll

Post by Canadian Livingstone »

By the 1700's some families of Western Argyllshire Maclea-Livingstones that traditionally resided in their ancestral homeland centred around Appin-Lismore-Morvern and Mull and neighbouring vicinity had spread into other parts of Argyllshire. Such was the case of Duncan Livingston who married Betsy McBride married January 27, 1876 in Kilfinan Parish, in Eastern Argyllshire near the County of Bute, but Duncan according to census records was actually born in Morvern Parish, Argyllshire. Furthermore their marriage entry indicates that Duncan Livingston's parents were Allan Livingston and Janet McInnes. The Morvern Parish records lists baptisms of Allan and Janet's children:
Katrine of Knock, Nov. 18, 1829, Mary of Lochaline August 24, 1830, Duncan of Lochaline July 02, 1833, Alexander of Lochaline August 07, 1835, John of Lochaline Sept 11, 1837, Ann of Lochaline January 27, 1844.

The 1841 Census indicates that Allan Livingston born abt. 1796 an agricutural laborer is residing with wife Janet born abt. 1800/1801 at Lochaline Village, Morvern Parish with his brother John born abt. 1786, their mother Mary born abt. 1751 and the children: Patrick age 13, Catharine age 11, Duncan age 9, Alexander age 7, John age 5 and Mary age 3.
The 1851 Census indicates that Allan Livingston age 55 born abt. 1796 a general laborer resides at Lochaline, Morvern with wife Janet, age 50, Mary age 18, Duncan age 16, John age 13, Ann age 8, Donald Cameron age 2

Allan Livingston laborer died October 29, 1867 at Kildervaig, Kilfinan Parish, Argyll given age 78. His wife his recorded as being Janet McInnes. Parents were recorded as Duncan Livingston and Mary Cameron. Mary Cameron his mother is presumingly the Mother Mary age 90 residing with Allan and family at Lochaline, Morvern as indicated in the 1841 Census. Allan's death was witnessed by his son Duncan Livingston

The ancestral line of this family presumed to be of Morvern, Western Argyllshire origin
1. Duncan Livingston and Mary Cameron ( widower b.abt. 1750 died before 1851, last place of residence Lochaline, Morvern 1841)
2. Allan Livingston (b. abt. 1796? Morvern? died October 29, 1867, Kildervaig, Kilfinan Parish, Argyll and Janet McInnes originally both of Lochaline, Morvern
3. Duncan Livingston b. abt. 1833? Lochaline, Morvern Parish and Betsy McBride later residing in Kilfinan Parish, Argyll and later nearby North Bute the County of Bute.

Allan's son Duncan born in Lochaline, Morvern at the time of his marriage is Kilfinan Parish, Argyllshire and later is a fisherman in neighbouring North Bute, Scotland.

The descendants of Duncan Livingston or Livingstone have no doubt dealt in more detail with Duncan's later family info, but I was interested in establishing his Morvern, Argyllshire Livingston ancestral connection.

regards,

Donald
