Hi Alisa,

Unfortunately the situation with genealogy research is that there is no guarantee that you will find what you are looking for in Scottish parish and census records. WIth the Scottish parish records some births or baptisms may not be recorded or some of the original entries missing. Some parish church records do not survive before the early 1800's and other include entries before the year 1700. When you a do a search you just hope that luck is on your side. Clearly we have established from census and parish records that Daniel and his kin were in Bothwell Parish including his Livingston grandparents and two Uncles in the mid 1800's but Daniel's parents are nowhere to be found apparently by this time for whatever reason and Daniel in the 1841 Census at that time at the age of 15 is living with his Livingston grandparents. Also that his grandparents and two Uncles that lived in Bothwell originated from Glasgow where they lived before settling in Bothwell Parish. The two uncles of Daniel were born in the City of Glasgow.

Regretably there won't be a Scottish death record for Daniel which would have provided us with some more family info. If Daniel had not gone to Michigan in the 1860's and had died in Scotland sometime after 1854 when detailed death records were begun in Scotland his detailed death record would have almost certainly recorded the names of his father and mother and you would in all likelihood have discovered the name of Daniel's parents.

regards,

Donald
