Hi all,
For some time now, John Livingston a descendant of Angus Livingston 1775-1847 and Margaret Hall, Hale,or McPhail originally residents of Ross of Mull, Argyll and later Urisaig, Colonsay and have been trying to prove that his ancestor Angus Livington and Donald Livingston who was married to Christy Campbell and residing on Ross of Mull in the early 1800's to the time of their death in the 1860's was the brother of Angus livingston and son of Neil Livingston of Shiaba, Ross of Mull. We have some supporting information in the Argyllshire records to believe that Angus and Donald were brothers. This reworking of earlier discussions regarding this Donald Livingston and Christy Campbell of Ross of Mull, Argyll I am hoping with be of interest to any descendants of Donald and Christy to drop by this Clan Maclea Livingstone Forum possibly in the future.
This is a Work in progress regarding the previously discussed sons of Donald Livingston and his wife Christy Campbell of Ross of Mull whose sons settled in Grey County, Ontario, Canada in the late 1840's and early 1850's. The focus here is the location of the gravestones and burial sites and gravestones info of some sons of Donald and Christy and I also include some early 1861 and 1871 census info pertaining to sons of Donald and Christy of Ross of Mull, Argyll who settled in Grey County, Ontario. It should be noted that some of the gravestone and census info just not fit precisely with the birth or baptismal info in the Kilfinchen Parish, Ross of Mull info for these sons of Donald Livingston and Christy Campbell which no doubt presents some confusion now and in the future. Please note that in 2025 I did an update of this 2018 posting as it was drawn to my attention thathere seems to be some question whether HughLivingston 1815-1883 buried in Rocky Sagueen Cemetery in Bentlinck Township, Grey County, Ontario is the son of Donald Livingston and Cirsty Cambbell Kilfinichen Parish of Ross of Mull or John Livingston and Flora McKinnon of Tobermory, Kilninian Parish, Mull, Argyll. Most recently in 2025 I am based on Hugh Livingston's 1815 baptism record and his 1883 death record recorded in Bentinck Township, Grey County that states he died in 1883 age 68 as does his gravestone that the John Livingston buried in Rocky Sageen Cemetery in Bentinck Township, Grey County must be the son of John Livingston and Flory McKinnon of Tobermory, Kilninian Parish, Mull rather than Donald Livingston and Cirsty Campbell of Kilfinichen Parish, Ross of Mull. Donald Livingston and Cirsty Campbell' son as stated below from his Ross of Mull baptism records was baptized and born in 1809 not years later in 1815. After revisiting the earlier info I posted here regarding Donald Livingston and Cirsty Campbells son Hugh baptized in 1809 and probably born that year in Kilfinichen Parish, Ross of Mull, Argyll I do not see how he could be the Hugh Livingston buried in Rocky Saugeen Cemetery in Bentinck Township, Grey County the age difference being quite significant in all of the Grey County, Ontario records with the Hugh Livingston born in 1809 to Donald Livingston and Cirsty Campbell.
l I will include the Ross of Mull info here as well that has been previously posted on website by John Livingston and myself. The main purpose of this revisiting of the Grey County Ross of mull Livingstons pioneer settlers sons of Donald Livingston and Christy Campbell of Ross of Mull, Mull, argyll is to locate descendants of these Grey County, Ontario Livingstons mentioned here and in the past by John Livingston and I.
Donald and Christy did not join their sons in Canada and instead chose to remain in Ross of Mull where they died in Ardtun in the 1860's. If any descendants of Hugh, Alexander, John or Duncan Livingston listed here who settled in Grey County, Ontario in the mid 1850's would share your own family history story, we would greatly appreciate hearing from your Livingston family story here at our Clan Maclea Livingstone Forum.
Donald Livingston of Kilfinchen Parish, Ross of Mull, Argyll died in Ardtun, Kilfinichen Parish, Ross of Mull age 84 on Sept. 27, 1866 but the 1841, 1851 and 1861 Census of Donald Livingston then residing in Kilfinichen Parish, Argyll indicates he was at the time of those censuses were conducted age 65, 75 and 85 suggesting a birth year of around 1776 which is the year which a Donald Livingston son of Neil Livingston was born according to information regarding a Neil Livingston and his sons Donald and Angus Livingston of Shiaba, Kilfinich Parish, Ross of Mull in a rare early 1779 Argyll Census. Parents of Donald Livingston mentioned in the death information were Neil Livingston and Christina Campbell.
