Hi all,

Alexander Livingston born in Scotland 1877 died 1854 was an early settler of Pictou Township, Pictou County, Nova Scotia who arrived in Pictou County about 1814. He is not a recorded son of early Nova Scotia settler Malcolm Livingston of Kilmallie Parish, Argyll in the Ardgour area of Argyll who back in 1791 arrived firstly in Pictou County and then later with his sons received land in Antigonish County, Nova Scotia.

Alexander Livingston is recorded in the 1838 Nova Scotia Census a farmer residing in Pictou Township, Pictou County. At the time of his death in 1854 he may have living near Salt Springs in Pictou Township where his buried. Also buried at the cemetery there is a possible son Donald Livingston b. Dec 22, 1820 Nova Scotia d. May 6,1901 who lived in New Laird, Pictou County N.S and buried with Alexander at Baille Cemetery at Salt Springs, Pictou County is the son of Alexander. There is also some info that Alexander arrived in Pictou County around the year 1814. I have not found as yet info as to whether his origins in Scotland were from somewhere in Argyllshire or neighbouring Inverness-shire but as most Livingstons who settled in Scotland in the 1800's originated in this part of Scotland it seems the likely place of origin.

Alexander's 1838 census info indicates that he had a wife at this time and at least 3 or 4 sons and some daughters. Donald Livingston b. 1812 in Nova Scotia was the only one I located in the census records. Other Livingtons residing in Pictou County later residing in Colonsay Hugh and John Livingston are the sons of Donald Livingston and Mary Graham settlers who arrived in Pictou County Nova Scotia in 1819 from Colonsay, Argyll

Alexander Livingston's gravestone and that of his son? Donald Livingston are located at Baille Cemetery in Saltsprings, Pictou Township, Pictou County, Nova Scotia. I have seen any grave markers for Alexander's wife or Donald's wife or other family members at Baille Cemetery so far.

Donald Livingston was born Dec. 22 1820 in Pictou County, Nova Scotia and died May 6, 1901 probably New Laird in Pictou County, Nova Scotia. Donald and his wife Catharine in 1901 were residing in New Laird, Pictou County, Nova Scotia. IN 1911 his widow Catharine is residing at Saltsprings where her husband Donald and where this Scotland born Alexander Livingston 1787-1854 are buried. I am suspecting since Donald was buried in the same rural cemetery at Salt Springs as the above mentioned Pictou County Pioneer settler Alexander Livingston 1787-1854 that they are probably but not proven father and son. Not much seems to be known of this Livingston family group. Donald also had a younger sister Effmina Livingston who lived with Donald his wife and their daughter Annie.

Alexander Livingston born 1787 died Nov. 20, 1854 Pictou County, N.S.

regards,

Donald
