Another Cuil, Duror and Appin Parish Livingston

Post by Canadian Livingstone »

Hi All,

I have been in earlier post discussions this month discovering some Livingstons and a related Mccorquodale family that resided in the Cuil, Duror and Appin Parish area in the 1800's. Some years earlier a Malcolm Livingston of Scotland contacted our forum and gave us some details of his Livingston ancestral line in Scotland connected to his oldest documented ancestor Malcolm Livingston b. abt. 1787 a Tailor and his wife Euphemia (Euphie) Colquhoun who also resided in the Cuil, Duror and Appin Parish area in the first half of the 1800's. This is what I pieced together regarding earliest part of his Livingston ancestral line based on Malcolm's Livingston family info he shared with the Forum in 2011.

Another Cuil Duror Parish, Argyll Livingston family (Ancestors of Malcolm Livingston Livingston family researcher)

1.Malcolm Livingston b. abt. 1786 Tailor Cuil, Duror Parish, Argyll d. before 1851 in Cuil, Duror Parish, Argyll. m. Feb. 17,1822 Appin Parish, Argyll Euphemia (Euphie) Colquhoun b. June 29,1789 in Ardnaclach, Appin Parish, Argyll d. before 1841
2.Hugh Livingston b. abt. 1826 Clachan of Greenfield, North Cuil, Duror Parish, Argyll d. July 13, 1890 Glasgow, Lanarkshire m. June 10, 1859 Blythswood, Glasgow, Lanarkshire Elizabeth McColl
3. Malcolm Livingston b. Sept. 29,1860 Hutchestown, Glasgow, Lanarkshire

Interestingly Malcolm brought our attention to the fact that his ancestor Malcolm Livingston besides Hugh had a younger son Duncan Livingston who settled sometime before 1861 in Canada locating in Sarnia, Lambton County Ontario and who died there in 1893 and who stated in 1880 in the Oban, Argyll Times that he was born in North Cuil, Duror Parish, Argyll which is where Malcolm's ancestor Malcolm Livingston and his son Hugh resided in the earlier part of the 1800's. Not surprisingly the younger brother Duncan named his first child born in Canada Malcolm Livingston.

Given the recent interest in Livingstons that lived in the Cuil area I think Malcolm might be interested in the info from that discussion. A Y DNA test with Familytreedna would help to clarify which Argyllshire Livingstone family group these 19th century Cuil Livingstons originated from or are closely connected to ancestrally. Familytreedna has tested Bachuil Lismore Livingstons, Livingston relatives of Donald Livingstone of Savary and a Livingston relative of Dr. David Livingstone of Blantyre, Lanarkshire and many other Livingstone's/Livingstons over the years. Find out what Livingstone/Livingston family group you are a match with through this Y Chromosome DNA test.

regards,

Donald
