Hello Maryann,

Thank-you for contacting the forum. Barry has informed me that you are related to old Kate Livingston and that whole Mull River -Skye Mountain highland Livingston family group on Cape Breton Island. It has been my dream since I first became involved with Clan Maclea Livingstone to gather information on as many of the original highland Livingstone settlers that settled in what is today Canada on a province by province basis. It is through people like yourself that we can make this happen. Some of our earliest highland Livingstones settled at Cape Breton in present day Nova Scotia. There are as Barry has no doubt told you some Livingstons or Livingston kin whom are descendants of Livingston families that settled in Cape Breton. Since they have arrived at the forum we have worked together to piece together with various census records and family history information the origins of the original Cape Breton Livingston families. Whatever you can share with us in the way of family history information and family tree info would be greatly appreciated and feel free to wrack our brains with whatever questions you might have regarding the Cape Breton Livingstones.

We have a few months back established this new forum and a good part of our Cape Breton Livingston info was done with the earlier forum, however we have saved the old postings from the old forum which you can access from the new forum.

regards,

Peter Sutherland (who later married Isobel McLea) disbanded information states, Disbanded New York on April 5, 1783.

It also states that James McLea is listed on "Muster Roll of Capt. John Speirs Company" date given, July,1784. Also stated that other family members mentioned, one being Isobell age 11 daughter of James McLea.
Thanks, Jewel!

as a side note, Roberta found that these Sutherlands who married the McLeas are also related to a famous Canadian Politician.

Thomas Clement Douglas is the grandfather of Keifer Sutherland, who is of this line of Sutherlands (and a descendant of Isabel McLea, daughter of James McLea). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Clement_Douglas Quite the impressive gentleman!

Roberta also noted that James's wife was probably nee Lamont.
