Hi Roberta,

Thanks for that. Note September 1662 James son of John Livingston minister of Ancrum is mentioned as an apprentice. That would be a son of Reverend John Livingston of Ancrum a Presbyterian minister whose outspoken views during the Reign of Charles the Second got him kicked out of Scotland a few months later and he ended up in Holland in exile. Interestingly enough another son of Reverend John Livingston was Robert Livingston of Livingston Manor, New York. John Livingston and his sons were apparently descended from the lowland, aristocratic ,Callendar Livingston family. There are some interesting biographical accounts of Reverend John Livingston in Scotland and the later life of his son Robert Livingston in Colonial New York. Andrew has told me we have some of Robert Livingston's descendants are involved in the DNA project.

Donald

Hi Roberta,

That must of been a bit of work but very timely as there has been some discussion of the lowland families. Livingstons of Saltcoats, Parkhall, Dunipace, Falkirk mentioned in those records you located I think are for the most part connected to old Lowland Callendar Livingston family as is Rev.John Livingston of Ancrum. A lot of these Livingstons I noticed also had family coat of arms from the 1600's in the Burke's books.A number of them in their coat of arms acknowledged a connection to the original Callendar Livingston Stirlingshire family of which most are descended. It would seem that some of these family lines are no more. The Callendar Livingstons have long since died out in Scotland, but not so in America where there are numerous living descendants of Robert Livingston of Livingston Manor Ny son of Rev. John Livingston of ANcrum who traced their lineage to the 4th or 5th Lord Livingston of Callendar.I also noticed in the information you have found that Reverend John Livingston's father, William Livingston of Lanark a minister also had son who was apprenticing July 21, 1630.

Hi Donald;

Well, Donald, when I found this information: I enjoyed reading it so much that I thought I should put this on the Forum.

I couldn't print the information, so I hand copied all of it. I kept thinking everything old is new again. What's a Callico Stamper, anyway? Or even a skinner, what does a skinner do?

I just hope that there will be something in all those names that will tweek others and help in understanding our extant history. So, no, it wasn't work. Housework, on the other hand......

Regards;

Roberta
