Hi Roberta,

Regarding Rosshire and Cromarty Mcleas you can see from the records there some of the Mclea families that were historically closely associated with Clan Mackenzie in Rosshire. See also Walter Macleay's research on Mcleas from the 1990's. A number of Mcleas were closely associated with Mackenzies and some were tenants of Mackenzies. These Rosshire Mcleas are supposed to have originated from Appin area Mcleas that had a dispute with the Appin Stewarts in the 1400's and left Argyllshire so the sense is that they have some kinship to some of the Mcleas or Mconleas in Western Argyllshire whom by the mid 1700's began to refer to themselves throughout Western Argyllshire as Livingston or Livingstone.
