Re: Argyll Parishes
Hi Jill;
Well now, am I ever pleased that you found a revelation in the names and dates that I am transcribing. When I went to school it was usually dates that got me a pass in History. Like 1066, 1215 or 1492. I enjoy what I am doing, Jill, and I hope our members and guests get some reveals here; as you did.
Kind regards;
Roberta

Re: Argyll Parishes
Hi Jewel,
Kidalton on the Isle of Islay is a curious example of Livingstons in Argyll prior to the 1750's in the parish records. My Livingston ancestor and his kin lived briefly around the late 1700's and early 1800's in Kilarrow Parish, Isle of Islay before leaving for British North America but have no connection to an apparently small group of Livingstons that lived in Kildalton as far back as the early 1700's according to surviving parish records and possibly before that in my view. DNA testing has shown at least two Livingston families that lived on the Island of Islay are not related and perhaps more. One of those families would be mine as my Livingstons are connected to both Kilarrow Parish on the the Isle of Islay and before that Movern Parish near Mull. The other Livingston family tested with roots to the Island of Islay interestingly enough is a relatively close match to Dr. Livingstone's brother's family. Neither my Livingston nor this other family however likely has any connection with this old Kildalton Livingston family which is why I think we should try and locate the descendants of this old Kildalton Parish family and invite them to participate in the DNA project. It would be interesting to see from the DNA results whom they match up with. They have always been a bit of mystery to me, though I have tried to tie them to possible 17th century settlement from lowland families which may have included a Livingston family. This however remains to be proven by DNA.
regards,
Donald

Re: Argyll Parishes
Hi Roberta,
Interestingly, the John Livingstone and Sarah McLaughlin of the Isle of Lismore you mentioned are Baron Livingstone's great-great-great grandparents. John was Baron of Bachuil John Livingstone formerly known as Maconlea or Maclea. It was John's father that likely was instrumental in the process whereby all of the highland Macleas in Western Argyll seem to have changed their name to Livingstone or Livingston in the 1750's and 1760's.

Donald
