Hi All. Thanks Ginger, Kyle and Greg for the additional information you've sent me...

It looks like I am going to try for the Pacific NW Highland Games in Enumclaw WA (near Seattle). Last weekend in July. And am going to try to the Vancouver BC ones last Saturday in June.

I have a friend at work who is considering helping me make something to wear. We were looking at the following items: (trying to find a pattern for the 1st one)(the 2nd link, probably the dress on the right). Also found a few links for various styles of just plain tartan skirts. Haven't found the patterns though.

Question came up, yes it would be nice to try and have anything made out of the Livingstone tartan style so its more authentic but not sure I can get the fabric soon enough. Are there any suggestions like if I wanted to one with something like a general scottish color theme or anything like that (hopefully that made sense)

Thanks, Suzanne

Good Easter morning, Suzanne.

Glad to have you aboard to host a tent. My wife and I are in the process of purchasing a house and moving over the next month but I will make sure that you have all the information you need to set up a tent.

The best and quickest way to add the Livingstone tartan to an outfit would be to get a sash and wear it over a white top. That could be paired with a denim skirt and look very sharp. Make sure that it is one that is 11" x 90" since it needs to rest on the shoulder and cross to the opposite hip. The two ends would be pinned with a broach about a foot or so up from the end. The first link will show you how to wear the sash and the others are possible places to get one. At each of those links you can also find broaches to use or you could use the Livingstone cap badge that you can find through this site. If you sew, you could always get material and make a skirt. Any of the sites can show you the basic design and patterns can be found at any fabric store. The material would be available from the last link.

Thanks for the information greg. I'm in the process of completing the necessary forms for the two highland games (Vancouver bC and Enumclaw). Hopefully they'll go out the next day or so.

Ginger gave me some ideas to items to have at the clan tent including:
Clan Applications
Sign In Book
Photos of Tartans, Clan Chief and Family (not sure where to get the photos yet)
Clan History Book (I did see a Clan History booklet in the shop)

Other Items I may have:
Info on the DNA project including our DNA participation and possibly family tree with our heritage back to scotland
Sheet of Interesting links; including links to the yahoo group, FB pages, the DNA project etc
my family history plaque
6-12 books on Scotland, Clans and Tartans (from my local library borrowed)
possibly some other clan items
listing or something similar of "famous" Livingston(e)

Also may purchase a case of two of Walkers cookies for treats and/or other scottish candies/treats

thanks, Suzanne

Suzanne, I am going to send you and email with some of what you will need that is on your list. It will also have information on where to get other items. I will have to send that this evening since I am at work now.

Just a quick note the clan will be represented in competition in several games in Michigan this year including the Alma games. I just hope I represent the clan well in my first year of competition. Jay

Good luck, Jay. Let us know how you do and what events you will be competing in.

Are there any other Livingstons in the area that could set up a tent for you to hang out in between events?

Indeed, best of luck, Jay! We would love to have a tent at any of the games in Michigan (Alma, etc.)--if I were still in MI I would set one up myself!

If you do have any interested parties to help, Greg has great information to get things moving--it can be a really simple tent if it needs to be.

But we'd love to have your info for our Clan newsletter even if you can't set up a tent--we support our clansmen in all endeavors!

This is most exciting Jay. Do let us all know how you get on in the various competitions you have entered. We'll be rooting for you!

Best of luck,

Jill

Greg there are no Livingstons that I know of at the Alma games. Last year I hung out with Kevin Phelps at the clan Macdougall tent. It would be great to meet some fellow clansmen this year. I'll let you know how things go.
