Learning about Scottish Parishes

Post by Kyle MacLea »

On ARGYLL, I recently came by this post. I found reading the Statistical Account for Bute to be really interesting, and it had a few references to the Rev. Dr. McLea there as well:
A good place to start when researching the history of a particular parish in
Scotland is the Statistical Accounts of Scotland at
http://edina.ac.uk/stat-acc-scot/

Enter the site as a non subscriber and you will be taken to the search
facilities. You will be offered two reports for each parish, one from the
1790s and another from the 1830s. These are written by the Church of
Scotland minister of the day and are quite comprehensive.
Hope this helps others!
