Hi Roberta,

A splendid collection and theres more.
Where to start.

You have located the information from old land petitions etc. for Malcolm Livingston who arrived about 1792, and two of his sons Angus and Duncan in involving land at Hawksbury, Napoleonic War veteran Angus Livingston b. 1773 that settled at Big Bras d'or, Boularderie and related petitions of his sons Laughlin, Archibald, Alexander and Roderick. (See my last posting to Jewel regarding this family.)
Also your ancestor John Livingston who settled at Low Point in the early 1800's and who named his property Staffa which is was a largely unhabited Picturesque Island in Kilninian and Kilmore. Interestly Donald McPhee a relative named his property "Kintran" which is actually a settlement near Loch Craignish 10 and half miles norhth of Lochgilphead near Kilmartin which I assume was in Kilmartin Parish. This oddly enough is no where near Mull in Eastern Argyll so this makes no sense to me what connection if any the McPhees have to Kintran. I assumed they had lived in Western Argyll in Northern Mull near the Livingstons for some time but that may not be the case. In any event I am reasonably certain they lived in Northern Mull when your John Livingston left Tobermory aboard the ship for PEI.

regards,

Donald

Hi Donald;

Poll Tax rolls 1791-1793 RG 1 vol. 444 Nsarm mfm no. 13580

Livingston, Malcolm Little Harbour Pictou Co. 1794 tax O13 pounds Livestock noted sheet no. 015
Livingston, Malcolm Jr. Little Harbour Pictou County 1794 tax 016 pounds noted sheet no. 15. These were the only Livingstons listed for this time period.
This means, to me, that he was being assessed on his chattels that he possessed in 1793; for the following tax year.

Regards;

Roberta

Hi Roberta,

Its fantastic that these old documents, petitions, still survive and can give us valuable information on these early Livingston pioneers. Yes I would think that Malcolm Livingston was one of the earliest highland Livingstones to settle in Nova Scotia.

regards,

Donald
