McLea from Lisburn N Ireland

Post by Andrew McLea »

Hi,just came across this site and taken aback by the amount of interest in the 'mclea' surname, my family have felt very unique in N Ireland as we seem to be the only 'mcleas' in the country. Does anyone have any idea how many 'mclea's' there are at the moment?

Dear Andrew! A warm welcome to the forum! I have noticed that McLeas aren't terribly common anywhere I've ever been, and only through concerted trolling through the Web have I managed to find as many as I have.

Hi Kyle We have two McClay families from Donegal in the project who both match with my Livingstone family from Angusshire, but I think the link is several centuries back. Grant's MacLea ancestors were also thought to have been present in Donegal, but on other bases you and Grant MIGHT belong to the same Lindsaig family and so... ...it would be very fascinating indeed if we could find a McLea family with your signature in Northern Ireland! Let's hope Andrew joins the project! Best Regards Andrew Lancaster

Yes, the chances of a match to several McLay or McClay families are also very good.
