Another Congressman to send an e-mail/letter to

Post by Kyle2 MacLea »

Thanks, Jerry! As with the Congressman mentioned yesterday, it appears that the congressional contact pages have been set to make it difficult to contact any congress person from outside the district by electronic means. So, perhaps someone could either look around for another e-contact for Buchanan, etc., OR we could find someone from within each state to email, OR we could simply mail hard copies.

Response from Clan MacKenzie

Post by D.W.Livingston »

I agree completely. From what I saw these stones will be layed in the ground for people to view as they are walking through the grounds. Only issue is that a lot of people will be looking around at the scenery and not down at their feet.. They won't stop to read anything until they get to the markers. Plus the Inscription stones will be placed with all the other donation stones so it does emphasis the contribution the clan made to the actual battle but will be lost in the multitude. David

Response from Clan Carmichael

Post by Canadian Livingstone »

Hi Kyle and David, And remember the Young Bachuil has been very clear in the past about his feelings regarding our clan or should I say the Highland Mcleas of old being falsely described by some many clan historians as being a small clan which were "septs of Stewarts of Appin". He has also corrected me more than a few times when I found myself referring to the regiment as the "Stewart of APpin REgiment". So what are they calling it now the "Stewart and McLaren Appin Regiment" or something like that. I guess that sounds somewhat better than calling it the Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young REgimentI suppose. We might do well by keeping in touch with Clan Carmichael and at the same time making contact with Appin/Lismore area Carmichaels who Niall may know of and who may welll be descendants or relatives of those who served in the Appin Regiment. At the same time we might be doing a service to Clan Carmichael who might not have contact will all their folks in the Highlands. There are as the gentleman pointed out more than one group of Carmichaels in Scotland much like the case of Our Clan McLea. Like our clan, Carmichaels migrated over the centuries. The Carmichaels that participated in the APpin regiment were howeve from the Appin/Lismore etc area. I have no doubt of that. regards Donald

I agree with you completely David. Why are so against creating historically accurate markers/monuments on the site indicating where each regiment fell and the clans that particpated and died that were in those regiments. Surely this is not complicated rocket science were talking about. The walkway thing seems like some sort of half baked idea that cheapens the whole experience for tourist many of them of Scottish descent. Unless I am mistaken it sounds like the people in charge did not consider the clan descendants or did not want these clans involved in their decision making process. Just a thought or two. regards Donald
