Hi Maryann,

Well I right about Old Kate being related to the Nine Mile Creek, PEI livingstons one of whom has been tested for our DNA project and is my Livingston cousin's closest match so I assume sometime a few hundred years ago we shared an ancestor in Morvern where his Livingston also come from. So I guess it may possible that I am distantly related to Old Kate as well seeing as she is descended from Donald and Mary Livingston pioneers of Nine Mile Creek, Queens County, PEI who arrived there in 1806.

regards,

Donald

Hi Mary Ann,

We need to find some Livingston descendants of your John Livingston Jr and old Kate to do the Maclea Livingston DNA test. Do you have any relatives you know well named Livingston.

Donald

They would be most welcome in the DNA project... keep in mind they must be MALE Livingstons (usually with that surname), since we test the Ychromosome passed from father to son.

Hi Donald;

I edited out the reference about John 1773 arriving in the 1790s.

I all ready read that he arrived in 1803. Although, he could have been elsewhere before arriving in Little Judique; either Cape George, or PEI. How can we find out for sure. One place says 1790s and another says 1803.

Hi Roberta,

I keep track of all the original Nova Scotia and PEI Livingstons on a spreadsheet. Just the esssential details for quick reference though I try to keep a file with more details as well. I will give you the quick rundown on the main ones that we are working with. I dont know how you get around descrepancies and conflicting information in sources but I will present to you Maritime Livingstons 101 in one of my next e-mails. The nice thing about this new forum is one can make corrections. So I will list them just to give you a sense of what I found out in my research and use it to compare and note similarties or differences with other information you might encounter. I that my be some help in the future.

Yes I think that John Livingston husband of Isabel McDonald settled at Judique,Inverness County, Cape Breton in 1803 but I would like some sort of verification from an original source document. At some point we should be able to get that.

regards,

Donald

Hi Maryanne;

You mentioned Mary Ann Livingstone. Mary Ann was my Greatgreat Aunt. Daughter of John Livingstone and Emily Roper of Low Point.

Mary Ann was born August 1854. John, her husband, was a miner. They were married in New Glascow, Pictou County; Nov. 10, 1873.

Grooms parents were John and Catherine. Witnesses: Malcolm McLean and Daniel McDonald.

Interesting you mentioned Thorburn, Pictou County. My Grandmother was born in Thorburn, Anastasia Connolly. Parents from County Cork, Ireland.

Daniel could be the son of Alexander McDonald d. age 38 and also father of your Mary McDonald.

Hello Maryann,

Wouldnt that be something if you all were somehow related to Roberta. I dont know how possible it would be but it would be great if we could get one of your Livingstone relatives a direct male descendant of John and old Kate would be perfect to participate in our DNA project. ANy one of them. We have a Maclea Livingstone DNA Project and Livingston kin of Roberta and I have both been tested along with many other Livingstons. We have within the project group a small but growing group of highland Livingstone origin that are a relatively close match and we have begunn to do tests on some of the Nova Scotia and PEI Livingstones. DNA testing your Livington relative would make it possible for us to determine whether you are infact closely related to other Livingstons of Canadian origin that have been tested. Are any of these Livingston relatives interested in thier family history?

regards,

Donald

Hello Maryanne,

Isn't that interesting, Maryann Livingston's father, John Livingston (who married Emily Roper), is the son of John Livingston and Ann McGilivray who are Roberta and my GG Grandparents. I think this would make us cousins through this marriage?
